About Branco Micaela

Branco Micaela is a granite for projects looking for brightness, homogeneity and technical calm. The material shows a light grey to slightly bluish-grey appearance with a fine to medium grain and a very even effect. It is precisely this controlled restraint that makes the stone interesting for facades, floor areas, stairs, window sills and contemporary external architecture. Unlike more heavily speckled or more animated granites, Branco Micaela reads as more precise and calmer, almost constructional.

The stone comes from Aguiar da Beira in the Portuguese region of Guarda. Petrographically it is a granite; on the market it is established as a pale Portuguese architectural granite. It plays to its strengths particularly on ventilated facades and in clean contract buildings, because brightness, evenness and technical reliability come together well. Compared with Pedras Salgadas, Branco Micaela reads as more homogeneous; compared with Bianco Sardo, somewhat cooler and finer in grain.

Finishes

Branco Micaela is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Polished

Polishing is the most classic finish in the hard stone segment — a mirror-smooth, high-gloss surface with the highest possible colour intensity and maximum depth effect in the mineral structure. As an acid-resistant silicate stone, polished granite is easy to care for and the first choice for kitchen worktops, wall claddings and prestigious exposed surfaces.

Satin-honed

The satin surface is created by brushing, which selectively removes softer minerals and gives the surface a slight depth. A matte appearance with subtle light reflection and a warm feel to the touch. Easy to maintain, insensitive to scratches and suited to everyday use — a popular alternative to a polish in modern kitchens and living spaces.

Honed C120

A matt appearance created by coarse honing with C120 grit — the level surface shows a more restrained colour intensity than polished and can carry visible honing marks. Compared with a polish it is more maintenance-intensive but stylistically calmer; the preferred choice for modern interior architecture with reduced reflection.

Flamed + brushed once

The surface is roughened by heat and brushed once to smooth sharp-edged mineral residues and remove loose material. The feel is somewhat gentler than purely flamed, it remains slip-resistant, and the colour is less intense than polished. The standard choice for outdoor areas, terraces and heavily used floor areas.

Care & fabrication

Branco Micaela is easy to look after, but should be sealed after installation. At 0.3 % water absorption the stone is forgiving; a sealer nevertheless makes cleaning and care markedly easier on paler surfaces.

For cleaning and care, pH-neutral natural stone cleaners, water and a soft cloth or mop are sufficient. On light grey surfaces, films of dirt and limescale rings should not be left standing for long.

Avoid unnecessarily aggressive specialist cleaners and heavily abrasive pads. Oil, coffee or residues from the building site should be removed promptly so that the even appearance is preserved.

Outdoors, regular maintenance cleaning, good drainage and restrained use of de-icing salt help. Technical resistance is high, but neglected textured surfaces nevertheless age faster visually.
