About Calacatta Vagli

Calacatta Vagli stands for the marble look that many clients have in mind when they think of luxurious white stone. The ground surface is pale to white, together with strong grey, beige or golden veins that run broader, cloudier or more clearly depending on the slab. It is precisely this tension between calm and figuring that makes the stone so sought after. It appears exclusive but not artificial, and depends strongly on the selection of the individual slab.

The stone comes from Vagli di Sotto in Tuscany and belongs to the well-known Calacatta types from the Carrara area. Compared with Bianco Carrara, Calacatta Vagli is markedly more dramatic and stronger in figuring; compared with some gold-dominated Calacatta grades, often somewhat more mineral and more classic. For kitchen islands, vanity tops, wall compositions and high-quality interiors it is a very strong material, provided the slab is deliberately selected and staged.

Finishes

Calacatta Vagli is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Poliert

Calacatta Vagli should be sealed carefully after installation. Even with low water absorption, the material remains, as a marble, acid-sensitive and more prone to staining than quartzite.

For cleaning and maintenance, use pH-neutral natural stone cleaners. Acidic cleaners, descalers and aggressive kitchen or bathroom chemicals are to be avoided.

Coffee, wine, lemon, oil and cosmetics should be removed promptly from horizontal surfaces. Pale marble surfaces in particular show marks of use quickly.

For external areas, restraint is sensible, particularly with a polished finish. The strongest side of Calacatta Vagli is clearly high-quality interior fit-out.

Frequently asked questions

Is Calacatta Vagli suitable for a kitchen?

Only with an awareness of maintenance. At about 2,710 to 2,725 kg/m³ bulk density and around 126 to 128 MPa compressive strength the stone is resilient, but it remains an acid-sensitive marble.

Where does Calacatta Vagli come from?

Calacatta Vagli comes from Vagli di Sotto in Italian Tuscany and belongs to the classic Calacatta marbles.

Which finish suits Calacatta Vagli?

The surface finishes currently held in stock are listed in the »Finishes« block on this page.

How do I care for Calacatta Vagli?

The stone should be sealed and maintained only with pH-neutral natural stone cleaners. Acidic cleaners are unsuitable.

Calacatta Vagli or Bianco Carrara?

Bianco Carrara appears quieter and more classic, Calacatta Vagli markedly more expressive and more luxurious. Anyone looking for visible veining is closer to the mark with Calacatta Vagli.
