Gris Pulpis is a brown-grey Spanish marble with fine white veining and a homogeneous, elegant surface. At ROSSITTIS it is used for floors, stairs, bathrooms and façades where a warm grey stone with higher density and a calm effect is called for.

About Gris Pulpis

In colour, Gris Pulpis moves between grey, taupe and brown, which puts it among the stones that cannot simply be reduced to a single colour. It is precisely this mixture that makes it so interesting: the surface reads as warm but not beige, dark but not heavy. Added to this are fine, light lines that give the stone structure without making it restless. For demanding interior architecture that is a very strong profile.

The stone comes from Spain, from the province of Castellón, and is listed in the trade as a marble; geologically it is a limestone. Compared with Emperador types, Gris Pulpis appears more homogeneous and cooler; compared with Grigio Carnico, lighter and lower in contrast. That makes it particularly suitable for floors, wall claddings, stairs and bathrooms in which a warm, elegant natural stone surface is called for.

Finishes

Gris Pulpis is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Polished

Polishing is the most classic finish for marble and limestone — a glossy surface with the highest possible colour intensity and a pronounced depth to the veining. Depending on the mineral composition, the effect can be matte-gloss in places. Acid-sensitive — wine, lemon and vinegar leave etch marks after prolonged contact.

Satin-honed

The surface is brushed — softer minerals are selectively removed, creating a subtle depth and a matte appearance. Strongly veined limestones in particular gain a characterful look and feel this way. The more matte finish conceals small etch marks better than a polish and stands up better to everyday use on heavily used interior surfaces.

Care & fabrication

Gris Pulpis should be sealed well in the kitchen, the bathroom and on heavily used surfaces. At around 0.27 % water absorption it is denser than many other limestones, but in everyday use it still clearly benefits from good stain protection.

For cleaning and care, pH-neutral natural stone cleaners and a soft microfibre cloth are suitable. Acidic cleaners, descalers and strong kitchen chemicals should be avoided.

Oil, wine, coffee and acidic foods should not be left to act for long. The surface finishes available in stock are listed in the »Finishes« block further down. That way the surface stays more coherent and easier to maintain in the long term.

Is Gris Pulpis suitable for the kitchen?

Yes, as a high-quality worktop that is possible. With around 2,660 kg/m³ bulk density, roughly 0.27 % water absorption and up to 147.5 MPa compressive strength the stone is respectably dense, but it remains acid-sensitive.
