Marron Emperador Gold is an acid-sensitive limestone. Wine, lemon juice, vinegar, cola, sanitary cleaners or descalers leave etch marks on the polished surface — visible as matt shadows or a loss of gloss. On the dark surface, changes are visually particularly noticeable.
For all applications, a silane or polysiloxane-based sealer is obligatory. It prevents the penetration of water, oil and dyes and reduces staining — but it does not remove the acid sensitivity. On polished surfaces we recommend refreshing the sealer every 1-2 years. The brecciated structure with its fine veins and calcite inclusions benefits particularly from a high-quality sealer — it prevents soiling from penetrating the fine fissures between the breccia fragments.
Daily care is carried out with a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner and a soft microfibre cloth. On dark surfaces you should not work too wet and should take off residues cleanly and dry, so that no streaks arise. Avoid acidic cleaners, descalers, vinegar and aggressive special chemicals.
Wine, coffee, oil, lemon juice or cosmetic products should not be left to act on polished surfaces for long — wipe off immediately and wipe over with clear water. The light calcite veins react most visibly to acids.
For kitchen worktops, Marron Emperador Gold is only conditionally suitable — acids from everyday cooking can leave a visible patina. Anyone who loves the luxurious material appearance and accepts patina as character can use the material in show kitchens. Anyone who needs maximum everyday security should choose a brown quartzite or granite.
For permanently weathered external surfaces the material is not suitable. Indoors it is stable over the long term given proper care.
