Crema Marfil is one of the best-known beige marbles in Europe, because it delivers exactly what many projects are looking for: brightness without pure white, warmth without rusticity, and a calm, largely directionless image. The surface reads as ivory to cream beige, fine and comparatively homogeneous, occasionally with very delicate veins or small fossil remains. This makes the stone work outstandingly well on larger floor areas, in foyers, stairwells, bathrooms and classic wall cladding. As a beige marble, Crema Marfil is often sought because it combines the elegant character of a marble with a restrained, homely colouring.
Crema Marfil comes from Spain, specifically from the Pinoso, Novelda and Alicante area. In the trade the material has been established as a marble for decades, and that is exactly how it is conceived in projects: as a warm, pale interior stone with a classic effect. Compared with white Carrara, Crema Marfil reads as warmer and more Mediterranean; compared with Jura materials, usually more homogeneous and less fossil-marked. For specifiers it is important that the stone behaves in design terms like a beige marble and, in everyday use, brings with it the same sensitive issues around acids and external weathering.
The technical values show a sound but not hard-rock profile. Bulk density is 2,700–2,740 kg/m³, compressive strength 98.6–125 MPa, flexural strength 19.5–19.8 MPa and water absorption 0.1–0.5 %. At the same time, Crema Marfil is acid-sensitive. That matches practice: the stone is dense enough for many high-quality internal applications, but it is not the right candidate where maximum chemical resistance or completely carefree kitchen toughness is the priority. Polished external surfaces are not regarded as durable.
Among the finishes, polished is the classic sales version, because it makes the warm beige tone appear particularly elegant. The finishes available from stock are listed in the »Finishes« block further down. A more matt finish would bring out the Mediterranean side of the material more strongly. At ROSSITTIS, Crema Marfil is available as a raw slab, in tiles, as tread and riser, window sill, skirting, vanity top, wall cladding and in part as a worktop. As an alternative to Carrara, Crema Marfil reads as warmer; as an alternative to Jura marble, usually more homogeneous and less fossil-marked.
The honest assessment: Crema Marfil is an outstanding interior stone, but not a stress-free all-rounder for every situation. In kitchens it can look very beautiful, but it reacts to acids. Outdoors, the finish, the climate and the specific construction should be examined far more critically than with granite or quartzite. Anyone who understands that gets in Crema Marfil not a fashionable effect stone but a decidedly proven warm beige classic.

Poliert
Politur ist die klassischste Veredelung für Marmor und Kalkstein — eine glänzende Oberfläche mit höchstmöglicher Farbintensität und ausgeprägter Tiefenwirkung der Aderung. Je nach mineralischer Zusammensetzung kann die Wirkung stellenweise mattglänzend sein. Säureempfindlich — Wein, Zitrone und Essig hinterlassen Ätzspuren bei längerer Einwirkung.
Satiniert
Die Oberfläche wird gebürstet — weichere Minerale werden gezielt entfernt, es entsteht eine subtile Tiefe und mattes Erscheinungsbild. Besonders geaderte Kalksteine erhalten so eine charaktervolle Optik und Haptik. Die mattere Veredelung kaschiert kleine Ätzungen besser als poliert und ist alltagstauglicher für stark beanspruchte Innenflächen.
Geschliffen C220
Mattes Erscheinungsbild durch feinen Schliff mit Körnung C220 — die ebene Oberfläche wirkt ruhig mit etwas intensiverer Farbwirkung als C120, leichte Schleifspuren möglich. Pflegeintensiver als poliert, dafür kratzfester und matt-elegant — beliebte Wahl für moderne Bodenflächen und Wandverkleidungen.
Care & fabrication
Crema Marfil should be sealed carefully immediately after installation. With warm beige limestones in particular, sealing helps to reduce staining from water, oil or cosmetic products, even though it does not remove the acid sensitivity.
For cleaning and care, only pH-neutral natural stone cleaners, clear water and a soft microfibre cloth are suitable. On pale beige surfaces, regular gentle maintenance cleaning is usually more sensible than infrequent intensive scrubbing.
Avoid vinegar cleaners, limescale removers, sanitary cleaners, citric acid and other acidic products. Coffee, wine, lemon or oil should be taken up promptly on worktops and vanity tops, so that neither stains nor dull etch marks form.
If you want to keep Crema Marfil looking good in the long term, the sealer should be refreshed according to loading. For external applications there is an additional point: frost, moisture and polished surfaces are critical and must be resolved cleanly in the construction.
