Juparana India is an Indian migmatite from Doddamudvadi/Kanakapura in Karnataka, with a warm creamy-beige ground mass interspersed with pink-salmon feldspar accents and black biotite bands in a flowing migmatitic direction of movement. Also listed internationally as Indian Juparana and Pink Coral; used for kitchen worktops, bar counters, floor surfaces, wall cladding, external façades and prestige interior and exterior surfaces with a warm, elegant feel.

About Juparana India

Juparana India lives from a warm, elegant material effect with a characteristically flowing migmatitic banded structure — the trade name 'Juparana' describes a whole family of commercially widespread migmatitic stones with a creamy ground mass and a dynamic vein pattern. The ground tone is a warm cream beige to salmon pink, interspersed with subtle warm pink feldspar accents — this pink note has earned the stone its second trade name, 'Pink Coral'. Across the slab surface run black to anthracite biotite bands in flowing, diagonally curved movements that give the composition a clear direction of movement. Added to this are fine-grained light grey and white quartz and feldspar speckles, which give the surface depth and a play of light. On a polished surface the stone develops a warm, glowing depth effect with the characteristic 'flowing' Juparana character — a material for architecture that wants to combine warm natural elegance with a dynamic material effect.

Geologically, Juparana India is a Precambrian migmatite from the quarries around Doddamudvadi near Kanakapura in the southern Indian state of Karnataka — DNSA-confirmed under entry #1760 (INDIAN JUPARANA, INSK 43.24). The DNSA classifies the rock unambiguously as a metamorphic migmatite. Migmatites are highly metamorphic mixed rocks on the boundary between gneiss and incipient anatexis (partial melting) — during the Precambrian mountain building, at pressures and temperatures above 700 °C, the light constituents (feldspar, quartz) in the rock began to melt while the dark minerals (biotite, hornblende) remained solid. On cooling, the light melt paths solidified in flowing, often very expressive bands — precisely the flowing banded structure that gives Juparana India its character. In international trade the stone is listed in the granite family and marketed under several synonyms: Juparana India, Indian Juparana and Pink Coral. Important for identification: further Indian stones with a 'Juparana' reference exist — Juparana Colombo (DNSA #5107, Tamil Nadu) and Vyara Light (DNSA #4656, Tamil Nadu) belong to the wider Juparana trade family but are independent stones from other quarries with different properties, not identical with Juparana India.

Technically, Juparana India shows solid values for an Indian migmatite. The bulk density is 2,630 kg/m³, the compressive strength 135 MPa, the flexural strength 7.4 MPa and the water absorption a very low 0.18 %. Mohs hardness is 6-7. DNSA explicitly confirms frost resistance, acid resistance and the outdoor durability of the polish — a particularly valuable property that many other stones do not meet. Wine, lemon juice, vinegar or acidic sanitary cleaners leave no etch marks. DNSA rates the stone as 'used now and again' in Germany — it is one of the more widespread Indian migmatite trade stones in the German-speaking market.

Compared with the classic Brazilian Juparana (e.g. Juparana Classico, the Brazilian Juparana Colombo), Juparana India brings a similarly flowing migmatitic banded structure with the characteristic warm creamy-pink ground tone — the Indian counterpart to the Brazilian Juparana family. Against more expressive Brazilian migmatites such as Belorizonte (pink with dramatic bands) or Tropical Black (black with orange rust-red streaks), Juparana India remains calmer and creamier in its slab image — a stone for architects seeking warm elegance with restrained movement. Poliert

Politur ist die klassischste Veredelung im Hartgesteinsegment — eine spiegelglatte, hochglänzende Oberfläche mit höchstmöglicher Farbintensität und maximaler Tiefenwirkung der Mineralstruktur. Als säurebeständiges Silikatgestein ist polierter Granit pflegeleicht und für Küchenarbeitsplatten, Wandverkleidungen und repräsentative Sichtflächen erste Wahl.

Sandgestrahlt+satiniert

Die Oberfläche wird sandgestrahlt aufgeraut und anschließend gebürstet — dadurch entsteht eine plane Fläche mit sanfterer Haptik als rein sandgestrahlt. Die Farbe wirkt zurückhaltend, die Textur ist rutschhemmend. Für anspruchsvolle Außenanwendungen, bei denen Trittsicherheit mit einer feineren Haptik kombiniert werden soll.

Geflammt + 1 x gebürstet

Die Oberfläche wird durch Hitze aufgeraut und einmal gebürstet, um scharfkantige Mineralreste zu glätten und loses Material zu entfernen. Etwas sanftere Haptik als rein geflammt, weiterhin rutschhemmend, Farbe weniger intensiv als poliert. Standardwahl für Außenbereiche, Terrassen und stark beanspruchte Bodenflächen.

Care & fabrication

As an Indian migmatite, Juparana India is a robust hard stone with a low water absorption (0.18 %), DNSA-confirmed acid resistance and frost resistance and a Mohs hardness of 6-7. Wine, lemon juice, vinegar, cola, sanitary cleaners or descalers leave no etch marks as they would on marble or limestone — the stone is considerably easier to care for and well suited to intensive everyday use.

For interior applications we recommend sealing on a silane or polysiloxane base at first installation. On polished surfaces, depending on use, 5-10 years can pass between sealer refreshes; on heavily used kitchen worktops or external applications, check every 2-3 years. Sealing protects against deep penetration of oil, grease and pigments — on the lighter creamy-pink areas discolouration would otherwise show up visibly, which with Juparana India is particularly important because of the warm light ground tone.

Daily care is carried out with a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner and a soft cloth or microfibre mop. Clear warm water is usually enough. Acidic cleaners are fundamentally unproblematic, but should nevertheless not be used, because they can attack the sealer. For kitchen worktops, Juparana India is very well suited: cut- and scratch-resistant, insensitive to heat (hot pots and pans can be set down directly for short periods, but prolonged heat exposure above 200 °C should still be avoided), DNSA-confirmed acid-resistant and with good stain repellency. The expressive, multi-layered surface conceals small marks of use astonishingly well. The surface finishes currently in stock are listed in the »Finishes« block further down. With the low water absorption (0.18 %) the stone is fully weather-stable — excellently suited to external façades, terraces, stairs and pool areas.

For pool surrounds, external terraces and fountain surrounds, a slip-resistant textured surface is mandatory — on polished external surfaces there is a high risk of slipping when wet. In areas with frequent salt contact (road salt, pool chlorine) we recommend an additional annual refresh of the sealer.
