About Rosso Balmoral

Rosso Balmoral is one of the classic red granites of northern Europe. The material shows a deep red to red-brown ground appearance with black and grey phenocrysts, more finely or more coarsely grained depending on the variety. This makes the stone look powerful yet ordered – exactly the kind of colour that works permanently on façades, steps, floor slabs and paving stones. As a red granite, Rosso Balmoral is sought after because it combines presence with great technical reliability.

The stone comes from Finland and occurs in several Balmoral variants, among them finer and coarser grades as well as New Balmoral. In the market Rosso Balmoral is a firmly established term for Finnish red granite. Compared with Multicolor Rot India it looks more uniform and more mineral, compared with Rosa Porrino considerably darker and more powerful. On façades and exterior surfaces in particular, this Nordic clarity is an advantage.

Finishes

Rosso Balmoral is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Polished

Polishing is the most classic finish in the hard stone segment — a mirror-smooth, high-gloss surface with the highest possible colour intensity and maximum depth effect in the mineral structure. As an acid-resistant silicate stone, polished granite is easy to care for and the first choice for kitchen worktops, wall claddings and prestigious exposed surfaces.

Honed C120

A matt appearance created by coarse honing with C120 grit — the level surface shows a more restrained colour intensity than polished and can carry visible honing marks. Compared with a polish it is more maintenance-intensive but stylistically calmer; the preferred choice for modern interior architecture with reduced reflection.

Flamed + brushed once

The surface is roughened by heat and brushed once to smooth sharp-edged mineral residues and remove loose material. The feel is somewhat gentler than purely flamed, it remains slip-resistant, and the colour is less intense than polished. The standard choice for outdoor areas, terraces and heavily used floor areas.

Care & fabrication

Rosso Balmoral should be impregnated after installation, particularly on floor areas, window sills and worktops. The water absorption of 0.15–0.26 % is low, yet an impregnation noticeably eases cleaning and care.

For cleaning and care, pH-neutral natural stone cleaners, water and a soft cloth are enough. On polished surfaces, water and limescale residues should not be allowed to dry on, so that the powerful red colour stays clear.

Avoid strongly abrasive specialist cleaners and unnecessarily aggressive chemicals. Oil, dyes and site-related soiling should be removed promptly.

Outdoors, good drainage, regular maintenance cleaning and a finish suited to the use are decisive. The stone is frost-resistant, but neglected rough surfaces still age faster visually.
