About Baltic Blue

Baltic Blue is one of those Finnish hard rocks that only show their full effect at second glance. The underlying mood lies between blue-grey, dark grey and brown-black mineral components. This makes the stone read as deep, cool and minerally complex, without tipping into decorative restlessness. On façades, stairs, paved surfaces and striking worktops in particular this produces a very high-quality, Nordic natural stone effect.

The stone comes from Hirvensalmi in Finland and is traded in the market as a granite. Petrographically, Baltic Blue is a monzonite. For planning, specification and trade, however, the granite classification is the right language. Compared with Bahama Blue or labradorite variants, Baltic Blue is less iridescent and somewhat more structural. Against purely grey granites it reads as darker and more colourful. That makes it interesting for architecture seeking depth without a show effect.

Baltic Blue is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Poliert

Politur ist die klassischste Veredelung im Hartgesteinsegment — eine spiegelglatte, hochglänzende Oberfläche mit höchstmöglicher Farbintensität und maximaler Tiefenwirkung der Mineralstruktur. Als säurebeständiges Silikatgestein ist polierter Granit pflegeleicht und für Küchenarbeitsplatten, Wandverkleidungen und repräsentative Sichtflächen erste Wahl.

Care & fabrication

Baltic Blue is easy to maintain, but should nonetheless be sealed as a worktop and in wet areas. That makes cleaning and care easier and reduces grease films, limescale rings and other signs of use.

For cleaning and care, pH-neutral natural stone cleaners, clear water and a microfibre cloth are sufficient. Aggressive chemicals are normally unnecessary on this granite.

On polished dark surfaces, water marks and fingerprints are visually more apparent than on textured surfaces. The finishes available from stock are listed in the »Finishes« block further down.

Outdoors, slip-appropriate finishes, a correct sub-base and safe drainage matter more than specialist cleaners. Baltic Blue then remains very stable over the long term.
