About Azulalia

Azulalia is a stone for projects that want to combine robustness with cool elegance. Its colouring moves between dark grey, blue-grey and almost anthracite passages, together with a fine, even grain. This makes the stone appear calm, compact and very professional. In façades, on stairs, in external paving or on heavily used floors it produces a natural stone effect that reads not as decorative but as structurally high-quality.

The stone comes from the Vendinha area near Évora in Portugal. Petrographically it is a granodiorite, but in the natural stone trade Azulalia is clearly read and specified as a granite. Compared with lighter Portuguese granites it appears darker and more technical. Compared with deep black stones it remains more granular and less monolithic. That is precisely what makes it interesting for architecture that relies on material honesty rather than effect.

Azulalia is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Poliert

Politur ist die klassischste Veredelung im Hartgesteinsegment — eine spiegelglatte, hochglänzende Oberfläche mit höchstmöglicher Farbintensität und maximaler Tiefenwirkung der Mineralstruktur. Als säurebeständiges Silikatgestein ist polierter Granit pflegeleicht und für Küchenarbeitsplatten, Wandverkleidungen und repräsentative Sichtflächen erste Wahl.

Care & fabrication

Azulalia is easy to look after, but should nevertheless be sealed on worktops and in wet areas. This makes cleaning and maintenance easier and reduces grease films, limescale rings and coloured residues.

For cleaning and maintenance, pH-neutral natural stone cleaners, clear water and a microfibre cloth are sufficient. On textured external surfaces, regular sweeping matters more than chemical treatment.

Outdoors, a slip-appropriate finish, a proper substructure and functioning drainage are decisive. Azulalia is then a very straightforward and durable granite.

How do I clean and care for Azulalia?

For cleaning and maintenance, pH-neutral natural stone cleaners and a soft cloth are enough. A sealer makes sense for kitchens and wet areas, even though the stone is very robust in principle.

Is Azulalia frost-resistant?

Yes. Frost resistance is documented, and the combination of roughly 0.17 % water absorption and around 143.3 MPa compressive strength after frost makes the stone very interesting for external applications.

Azulalia or Azul Cristal?

Azulalia appears darker and more technical, Azul Cristal lighter and somewhat more open in effect. Both are strong Portuguese granites, but Azulalia is the more compact, darker choice.
