Travertine Golden Walnut comes from the quarry area around Azar Shar in the province of West Azerbaijan (Azarbayjan-e Gharbi) in the north-west of Iran — a region that counts among the world's most important travertine suppliers. Iranian travertines have enjoyed an international reputation for decades for their exceptional quality, even colouring and consistent material character, which go back to the geological advantage of the Persian limestone belt with its calmly flowing, mineral-rich freshwater springs. Geologically this is a freshwater travertine formed by the slow precipitation of calcium carbonate from supersaturated thermal or warm spring waters. During the precipitation process, plant remains, trapped gases and micro-organisms produced the typical elongated cavities and layered beddings that characterise every travertine.
The suffix “C C” stands for “Cross Cut” and denotes the cutting direction of the slabs across the original sedimentary bedding. In principle travertine can be sawn in two main orientations: in vein cut (along the sedimentary bedding, in which the stone shows characteristic horizontal bands and linear structures) or in cross cut (across the bedding, in which the stone shows a cloudy, mottled pattern without linear structures). Unfilled + satin-honed
The natural pores and cavities remain visible and unworked — a typical characteristic of travertine. The surface is brushed for a subtle depth and a matte effect. More care-intensive than filled, but with a fully natural appearance and a pronounced tactile quality — a characterful choice for wall cladding.
Filled + satin-honed
Natural pores and cavities are filled with a special filler compound and thereby sealed, after which the surface is brushed. A subtle depth and a matt appearance combined with an easy-care, closed surface — the most everyday-proof travertine finish for living areas and bathrooms.
Care & fabrication
Travertine Golden Walnut C-C is acid-sensitive as a carbonate rock and should be cared for attentively. Indoors, use exclusively warm water with a pH-neutral stone cleaning agent — acidic household cleaners, vinegar, citric-acid descalers or other acidic substances cause matt etched patches that can only be reversed by professional re-polishing or re-grinding. Take up spilled acidic liquids promptly with clean water. A professional impregnation after laying and then every 1 to 2 years is recommended indoors and mandatory outdoors — it decisively reduces water absorption, protects against freeze-thaw damage and mitigates the take-up of pigments (red wine, coffee, olive oil). With the unfilled version, dirt collects in the natural pores over time, which deliberately allows the appearance to age in a lively way — anyone wanting a consistently even look should choose the filled version or take care during cleaning that the pores are occasionally freed of dirt with a soft brush. With pool surrounds, alongside the impregnation it is also important to keep an eye on chlorinated splash water: strong chlorine can cause local lightening. Road salt in winter must be avoided on travertine exterior surfaces without exception — chloride-free de-icing agents are the proper alternative.
