Verde Bamboo

Geologically it is a Precambrian gneiss — a metamorphic rock that formed from igneous or sedimentary parent rocks under high pressure and high temperatures, developing in the process its characteristic fabric-oriented mineral arrangement with pronounced foliation. The parallel running banded structures that have earned the stone its marketing name are the result of this metamorphic foliation during Precambrian orogeny — the original mineral components were aligned into parallel oriented tracks and thus create the characteristic bamboo-like appearance. The olive-green tonality results from epidotic, chloritic and serpentine-bearing mineral components that were present in the original igneous or sedimentary parent rocks. The deep blue to anthracite areas consist of biotite- and amphibole-rich components, the copper-orange accent points of iron-oxide mineralisations. The DNSA database documents the mineralogical complexity of the stone and notes that individual mineral components are not permanently acid-resistant — an important technical peculiarity that should be taken into account in care.

Visually, Verde Bamboo is marked by an exceptionally theatrical, almost tropically painterly material signature. The base shade moves within the olive-green to dark green spectrum with subtle warm bronze and gold-orange accent points, interspersed with dramatic deep blue and anthracite parallel band structures that articulate the slab appearance rhythmically. The banding is decidedly striking and directional — unlike the flowing, organic vein markings of many other movement granites, Verde Bamboo shows an almost architecturally rhythmic structuring that recalls the natural grain of bamboo canes. Slab variation is moderate — the overall appearance in each delivery is reliable, while individual slabs show differing band widths and densities of accent points. With bookmatch laying — mirror-image laying of adjacent slabs — particularly impressive, almost architecturally symmetrical large-scale patterns emerge with the parallel running band structures.

Technically, Verde Bamboo is among the highest-grade Brazilian hard rocks with documented DNSA values (#5629): bulk density 2700 to 2720 kg/m³, compressive strength 195 to 200 MPa (exceptionally high and close to granite), flexural strength 25 to 27 MPa (exceptionally high), water absorption of only 0.10 % (extremely low). The outstanding flexural strength of 25 to 27 MPa is a remarkable advantage — it lies markedly above the level of most granites and qualifies the stone for very demanding construction applications. An important technical peculiarity: individual mineral components are not permanently acid-resistant. This distinguishes Verde Bamboo from typical acid-resistant granites and should be taken into account in care, but it is markedly less pronounced than the acid sensitivity of marbles and limestones.

In interior fit-out, Verde Bamboo is a statement material for the highest design demands and exclusive architecture. Classic applications are kitchen worktops in design kitchens, in which the material acts as the visual focal point of the architecture; feature walls in living rooms, hotel lobbies and entrance areas; bar counters and counter fronts; bathroom feature walls; table and console tops as statement furniture; fireplace surrounds with a dramatic effect. The powerfully green tonality with its dramatic deep blue and anthracite band structures harmonises particularly with dark timber in walnut, mahogany or oak, with brass, bronze and gold accents, with restrained black and with muted earth tones. Outdoors it finds use as a façade accent, entrance cladding and prestige paving — the high technical robustness and the low water absorption qualify it for demanding external applications, although the DNSA note on the conditional durability of the polished appearance outdoors is to be observed. Glossy external applications should be structurally protected.
