Verde Nuvolato

Verde Nuvolato is a Chinese conglomerate with a dramatically dark green ground mass and powerfully animated creamy white, light grey creamy pebble clasts — a metamorphosed gravel rock traded internationally as a hard stone granite. “Nuvolato” (“cloudy”) describes the organically animated clast distribution. Heavy-duty, acid-resistant, frost-resistant — an exceptional choice for statement wall claddings, bar counters, floor areas and prestige interior and exterior architecture.

Chinese metamorphosed conglomerate (a clastic sedimentary rock with rounded, water-worn pebble clasts in a mineral matrix, slightly metamorphosed) from the eastern Chinese dimension stone provinces. Mineralogically dominated by chlorite- and epidote-rich components in the dark green matrix; pebble clasts in creamy white, light grey-cream and yellowish tones. Mohs hardness approx. 6, high compressive strength, low water absorption, fully acid-, heat- and frost-resistant. Traded internationally as “granite” or “green granite”. Note: similarly named Italian and Swiss metabasites exist — the ROSSITTIS stock is specifically the Chinese conglomerate.

About Verde Nuvolato

Verde Nuvolato is a Chinese conglomerate (metamorphosed gravel rock) from the eastern Chinese building stone provinces.

Geologically it is a conglomerate — a clastic sedimentary rock made of rounded gravel clasts cemented in a mineral matrix. In the case of Verde Nuvolato, the original conglomerate was tectonically loaded under mild to moderate metamorphosis and partly recrystallised, which explains today's stable structure and the typical hard stone performance. The intensely dark green colouring of the matrix arises from chlorite- and epidote-rich mineral portions, typical of lightly metamorphosed sediments with basaltic gravel components.

Finishes

Verde Nuvolato is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Polished

Polishing is the most classic finish in the hard stone segment — a mirror-smooth, high-gloss surface with the highest possible colour intensity and maximum depth effect in the mineral structure. As an acid-resistant silicate stone, polished granite is easy to care for and the first choice for kitchen worktops, wall claddings and prestigious exposed surfaces.

Care & fabrication

As a metamorphosed conglomerate, Verde Nuvolato is a robust hard stone with low water absorption, full acid resistance and Mohs hardness ~6.

Daily cleaning: a soft microfibre cloth, warm water and a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner. Polish dry — on the dark tonality, limescale veils would otherwise be visible.

Do not use: concentrated acids, steel wool, coarse scouring pads.

Impregnation: on polished surfaces recommendable every 18–36 months depending on loading. Less visible on the dark ground mass than on the pale clasts — these can show saturation marks from oil or food when not impregnated.

Kitchen worktop: hot pans can be set down directly, steel knives leave no scratches, wine and lemon no etch marks — fully suited to everyday use.

Stain treatment: wipe away fresh splashes (wine, coffee, tomato sauce, oil) immediately.

Exterior: frost-capable when properly laid with drainage. Use de-icing salt sparingly in winter.

Repair: scratches in the polish can be evened out by proper re-polishing.

Frequently asked questions

What does “Nuvolato” mean?

“Nuvolato” is Italian for “cloudy” and describes the characteristic animated clast distribution of the slab picture — like frozen cloud formations. In trade also carried as “Verde Nuvolato”, “Nuvolato Verde” or related named grades.

What is Verde Nuvolato geologically?

A Chinese metamorphosed conglomerate — a clastic sedimentary rock made of rounded gravel clasts in a mineral matrix, lightly metamorphosed. The intensely dark green matrix arises from chlorite- and epidote-rich mineral portions. Carried in trade as granite/hard stone.

Where does Verde Nuvolato come from?

From the eastern Chinese building stone provinces. Important: several similarly named Italian and Swiss metabasites exist in international trade — at ROSSITTIS it is specifically the Chinese conglomerate.

Is Verde Nuvolato suitable for the kitchen?

Very well suited. With Mohs hardness ~6, full acid resistance and heat resistance, Verde Nuvolato is a powerful choice for kitchen worktops — unlike green marbles such as Verde Alpi (acid-sensitive), Verde Nuvolato offers full everyday suitability.

Which finishes are available?

The surface finishes available from stock are listed in the »Finishes« block on this page.

Is Verde Nuvolato suitable for bookmatch?

Yes — with mirrored slab pairs the powerfully animated clast distribution delivers dramatic axially symmetrical pictures. On request we reserve slabs directly from the same block.

Verde Nuvolato or Verde Alpi?

Verde Alpi (Italian serpentinite marble) has Mohs hardness 3 and is acid-sensitive — primarily for decorative interior applications. Verde Nuvolato (Chinese metamorphosed conglomerate) has Mohs hardness ~6 and full acid resistance — suitable for kitchens, exterior façades and heavily loaded applications. For maximum material character and everyday suitability, Verde Nuvolato.

How much material do you currently have in stock?

We currently carry 17 raw slabs of Verde Nuvolato in various thicknesses with a polished surface.

What does Verde Nuvolato cost?

The price depends on the batch, thickness, surface finish and fabrication — with natural stone there is no serious flat rate per square metre. Business customers see prices once their B2B account is activated; private customers receive a complete quote through a fabricator near them.
