Vert de Salvan is a unique Swiss dimension stone from the Permian conglomerate quarry in the municipality of Salvan in the district of Martigny in the canton of Valais. As a Permian conglomerate, Vert de Salvan is decidedly easy to care for — the low water absorption of 0.17 % and the high flexural strength make the stone resistant to mechanical loading. DNSA notes, however, an important particularity: individual mineral constituents are not permanently acid-resistant. The following therefore applies: for daily cleaning use exclusively warm water with a pH-neutral stone cleaning agent — acidic household cleaners, vinegar, citric-acid descalers or other concentrated acidic substances should be avoided. Take up spilt acidic liquids promptly with clean water — this sensitivity is to be observed in comparison with genuinely acid-resistant granites, but is considerably less pronounced than the acid sensitivity of marbles and limestones. A professional impregnation after installation and then every 2 to 3 years is recommended indoors, in order to reduce the absorption of pigments. With the dark greenish material signature, pigment stains are less visible than on light stones. Outdoors, regular cleaning with clear water is sufficient; where green growth takes hold in shaded locations, commercially available algae and moss cleaners can be used.
