About Aurora Finnland

Aurora Finnland belongs to those dark hard rocks that work not through golden inclusions or strong contrasts but through depth and calm. The colour lies between black, anthracite and a very dark grey, crossed by an irregularly clouded structure. This makes the stone appear lively without becoming loud. In modern architecture in particular, on external stairs, façades and robust floors, it makes a very convincing appearance.

The stone comes from Mäntsälä north of Helsinki and belongs to the classic dark Finnish hard rocks read on the European market as black granite. Petrographically it is a migmatite, but in the trade the classification as granite is the right language for planning and specification. Compared with Nero Assoluto, Aurora Finnland is markedly more animated and more cloudy. Compared with Atlantic Black or other exotics it appears less dramatic, but more matter-of-fact and more constructional.

Finishes

Aurora Finnland is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Poliert

Aurora Finnland is easy to look after, but should nevertheless be sealed as a worktop or in heavily frequented wet areas. This makes cleaning and maintenance easier and reduces grease films, limescale rings and stubborn soiling.

For cleaning and maintenance, pH-neutral natural stone cleaners, clear water and a microfibre cloth are sufficient. Aggressive chemistry is as a rule unnecessary with this granite.

On polished dark surfaces, water marks and fingerprints are seen more quickly than on pale granites. The surface finishes currently held in stock are listed in the »Finishes« block further down.

Outdoors, the right finish, a clean substructure and reliable drainage matter more than specialist care. The surface finishes currently held in stock are listed in the »Finishes« block further down.

Frequently asked questions

Is Aurora Finnland suitable for a kitchen?

Yes, very much so. With around 2,700 kg/m³ bulk density, roughly 0.21 % water absorption and approximately 210 MPa compressive strength, Aurora Finnland is a resilient dark granite for worktops.

Which finishes are available for Aurora Finnland?

The surface finishes currently held in stock are listed in the »Finishes« block on this page.

Where does Aurora Finnland come from?

Aurora Finnland comes from Mäntsälä north of Helsinki. The stone is one of the classic dark Finnish hard rocks on the European market.

How do I clean and care for Aurora Finnland?

For cleaning and maintenance, pH-neutral natural stone cleaners and a soft cloth are enough. A sealer makes sense for kitchens and bathrooms, even though the stone is robust in principle.

Is Aurora Finnland frost-resistant?

Yes. Frost resistance is documented, and the combination of roughly 0.21 % water absorption and 14.7 MPa flexural strength makes the stone very interesting for stairs, façades and paving.

Aurora Finnland or Nero Assoluto?

Nero Assoluto appears more homogeneous and blacker, Aurora Finnland livelier and more cloudy. In return, Aurora Finnland is particularly strong as a dark architectural granite outdoors and in structural applications.
