About Azul Bahia
Azul Bahia is one of the few natural stones that are recognised even from a distance. The stone shows a strong blue to deep blue, interspersed with lighter crystal zones, black points and occasionally greenish veins. This play of colour does not read as calm but as luxurious and highly individual. That is precisely why Azul Bahia is almost never used as a neutral contract stone, but as a deliberately placed highlight: on kitchen islands, as a vanity top, as a splashback or as a striking wall panel in prestige interiors.
The stone comes from the Brazilian state of Bahia. Petrographically it is a foidolite — an igneous hard rock of the granite family with a characteristically high sodalite content, which produces its intense blue effect. What distinguishes it from ordinary grey or black granites is not primarily its technical class but its exceptional colour. Compared with blue quartzite, Azul Bahia reads as more crystalline and more compact; compared with ordinary granite, almost exotic. That is exactly why it is not to be compared with standard materials, but rather with rare premium stones such as Azul Imperial or Patagonia — only in an entirely different colour world.
Technically, despite its exclusivity, Azul Bahia brings a usable profile: bulk density is 2,553 kg/m³, compressive strength 174.2 MPa, compressive strength after frost 142.6 MPa, water absorption 0.22 % and thermal expansion 0.0012 mm/m°C. The stone is therefore not merely a carrier of effect but a hard rock to be taken seriously. The low water absorption and the still high residual strength after frost in particular show that the beauty of the material is not bought at the expense of basic stability.
A polished finish is practically a given for Azul Bahia, because only the glossy surface reveals the full depth of the blue. At ROSSITTIS, Azul Bahia is available as a raw slab, as a kitchen worktop, vanity top, wall cladding, window sill and for selected floor or stair projects. As an alternative to Azul Imperial it is more crystalline and darker; as an alternative to black granite, markedly more expressive and rarer.

Azul Bahia is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.
Polished
Polishing is the most classic finish in the hard stone segment — a mirror-smooth, high-gloss surface with the highest possible colour intensity and maximum depth effect in the mineral structure. As an acid-resistant silicate stone, polished granite is easy to care for and the first choice for kitchen worktops, wall claddings and prestigious exposed surfaces.
Care & fabrication
Azul Bahia should be sealed after fabrication, even though the stone is relatively dense at 0.22 % water absorption. The sealer makes cleaning and care easier and helps, particularly on the darker portions, against oil and dye residues.
For cleaning and care, pH-neutral natural stone cleaners, warm water and a soft microfibre cloth are sufficient. On polished surfaces it pays not to let water and limescale residues dry on, so that the blue stays clean and brilliant.
Avoid abrasive pads and aggressive specialist cleaners not approved for natural stone. Coffee, oil, red wine or strongly colouring foods should be removed promptly from worktops.
Where Azul Bahia is installed in a bathroom or kitchen, visual care matters almost more than the technical kind. It is not load-bearing capacity that is the weakness, but the fact that this stone makes every lapse immediately visible.
