About Azul Galactico
Azul Galactico is one of the most expressive movement stones in the Brazilian hard rock range — a classic migmatite with a dark blue to deep black base matrix, shot through with pale grey to white quartz and feldspar fields in a flowing, folded movement texture. Characteristic is the painterly, almost galactic slab appearance to which the material owes its trade name: pale mineral clouds recall star nebulae against a dark blue background. Geologically, Azul Galactico is a migmatite from the Brazilian deep metamorphic provinces — migmatites form through the partial melting of old gneisses and granites under very high pressures and temperatures in deeper crustal zones. The typical cloudy, flowing structures are the solidified melt paths, which interlock with the residual rock and produce the characteristic mineral image. In the international stone trade, migmatites are consistently assigned to the hard rocks and carried under “granite”, since they behave technically like classic hard granites. Mineralogically, Azul Galactico is dominated by dark blue to black hornblende and biotite bands, pale plagioclase and quartz fields and occasional golden iron oxide accents. The technical values place Azul Galactico clearly in the class of robust hard rocks: high compressive strength, low water absorption well below 0.5 per cent, frost-resistant to DIN EN 12407, acid-resistant within the normal application range. Care & fabrication
As a Brazilian migmatite of the granite family, Azul Galactico can be cleaned and maintained without difficulty over the long term. With its low water absorption and acid resistance within the normal application range, the material is very robust in everyday use — wine, lemon juice, vinegar or carbonated drinks leave no etch marks. For kitchen worktops, external paving and heavily frequented floor surfaces we nonetheless recommend a silane- or polysiloxane-based sealer as additional protection against strongly colouring substances such as red wine, coffee, oil and tomato sauce. Routine cleaning is carried out with a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner and a soft microfibre cloth or mop. Avoid strongly alkaline heavy-duty cleaners and abrasive steel wool. Outdoors, Azul Galactico is frost-resistant and tolerant of de-icing salt — rinse off salt residues with water in spring. We recommend refreshing the sealer every three to five years.
