About Cinza Grey

Cinza Grey lives on a calm, elegant grey material effect with a classic speckled granite character. The base tone is a balanced light grey to mid-grey — cooler than a warm beige granite, but lighter than a dark anthracite granite. Across the slab, fine-grained mineral zones are distributed in the pattern typical of classic granites: white to cream-white quartz and feldspar dots, black biotite and hornblende speckles, plus occasional larger white feldspar clusters that emerge from the grey ground mass like subtle accents. Unlike expressive green or red-brown granites, Cinza Grey appears distinctly more restrained and neutral — the stone is primarily an elegant background, not a statement material. On a polished surface, a classic grey granite lustre develops with subtle light reflections from the mineral zones — timeless and unobtrusive, ideal for architecture with a classic-modern or restrained ambition.

Geologically, Cinza Grey is a classic granite from Brazil — formed from magma solidified in the earth's crust, with high proportions of quartz, plagioclase feldspar and potassium feldspar as well as biotite and hornblende as the dark minerals. The Portuguese name “Cinza” literally means “grey” and is a collective term for a large number of grey Brazilian granites from various quarries. The mineral composition is classically granitic: the light grey comes from the dominance of plagioclase feldspar, the black dots from biotite and hornblende, the white zones from quartz and potassium feldspar. Technically, Cinza Grey shows solid values for a classic Brazilian granite. The bulk density is 2,651 kg/m³, the compressive strength 160.5 MPa, the flexural strength 17.16 MPa and the water absorption a low 0.27 %. The Mohs hardness is 6-7. This makes the stone acid-resistant (unlike marble or limestone), resistant to cutting and scratching, frost-resistant and well suited to heavily used applications — it can safely carry kitchen worktops, external façades, floor coverings or staircases. Wine, lemon juice, vinegar or acidic sanitary cleaners leave no etch marks. The fine-grained structure also makes the stone very receptive to polishing — on a polished surface, the grey base tone develops a classic granite depth with subtle mineral reflections.

Compared with classic white granites such as Kashmir White (with warm burgundy-red accents) or Ivory White (warm and creamy), Cinza Grey brings a cooler, neutral grey base tone with no warm accents — a choice for modern architecture with a cool, classic ambition. Compared with darker grey granites such as Padang Dark or Chinese Grey, Cinza Grey is considerably lighter with a clear speckled white-and-grey look instead of a dark anthracite one. Poliert

Politur ist die klassischste Veredelung im Hartgesteinsegment — eine spiegelglatte, hochglänzende Oberfläche mit höchstmöglicher Farbintensität und maximaler Tiefenwirkung der Mineralstruktur. Als säurebeständiges Silikatgestein ist polierter Granit pflegeleicht und für Küchenarbeitsplatten, Wandverkleidungen und repräsentative Sichtflächen erste Wahl.

Care & fabrication

As a Brazilian granite, Cinza Grey is a robust hard stone with low water absorption (0.27 %), good acid resistance and a Mohs hardness of 6-7. Wine, lemon juice, vinegar, cola, sanitary cleaners or descalers leave no etch marks as they would on marble or limestone — the stone is considerably easier to look after and well suited to intensive everyday use.

For interior applications we recommend a sealer on a silane or polysiloxane basis when first installed. On polished surfaces, 5-10 years may pass between refreshing the sealer depending on use; on heavily used kitchen worktops or exterior applications, check every 2-3 years. Sealing protects against oil, grease and pigments penetrating deeply — otherwise discolouration can show up visibly on the light grey ground mass.

Daily care is carried out with a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner and a soft cloth or microfibre mop. Clear warm water is usually sufficient. Acidic cleaners are unproblematic in principle, but should nevertheless not be used, because they can attack the sealer.

Cinza Grey is very well suited to kitchen worktops: resistant to cutting and scratching, insensitive to heat (hot pots and pans can be set down directly for short periods, though prolonged exposure to heat above 200 °C should still be avoided), acid-resistant and with good stain repellency. The mid-grey base tone conceals small crumbs and smears moderately well — on kitchen surfaces we recommend consistent daily cleaning.

For exterior applications, its low water absorption makes Cinza Grey frost-resistant and stable against weathering in the long term — ideally suited to external façades, terraces, stairs and pool areas. Polished exterior surfaces may show minimal loss of gloss after years in locations with heavy UV exposure; for heavily weathered areas or areas with slip-resistance requirements

For pool surrounds, outdoor terraces and fountain surrounds, a slip-inhibiting special finish is advisable — on polished exterior surfaces there is a high risk of slipping when wet. In areas with frequent salt contact (road salt, pool chlorine) we recommend an additional annual refresh of the sealer.

Cinza Grey or Padang Dark — which suits better?

Cinza Grey (a Brazilian granite) is considerably lighter with a balanced mid-grey and a classic speckled white-and-grey look — suitable for classic-modern architecture with a restrained, elegant atmosphere.
