Black Horizon is a Brazilian hard rock from the extensive metamorphic shield areas of Brazil. The exact petrographic classification (gneiss, quartzite or migmatite) cannot be determined unambiguously — which also suits the visual composition of this material: an exceptional hard rock with powerful horizontal movement bands.
In the slab image, Black Horizon shows an impressive, dramatic layering composition: a deep black ground tone run through by powerfully horizontal golden-honey-warm movement bands and creamy white accent lines. The vein figuring reads like a geological horizon composition — like sedimentary layering bands or a dramatic sunset against a dark sky. Hence the brand name 'Black Horizon'.
This exceptional composition can most readily be explained by two possible petrographic models:
1) A metamorphic layering foliation in a gneiss or migmatite, in which original sedimentary or volcanic layering has been preserved
2) A migmatite banding with melted leucosome layers (golden-warm) and residual melanosome bands (black)
For the application this means: Black Horizon is an exceptional choice for dramatic statement wall claddings, fireplace surrounds, bar counters, vanity tops and prestigious internal surfaces in which the material is intended to become the deliberate design lead player. Unlike calm, monochrome solid-colour dimension stones, Black Horizon demands a conscious staging — it does not work as a restrained background.
Technically, Black Horizon is, like all Brazilian hard rocks, a robust high-performance dimension stone with high compressive strength, low water absorption, complete acid resistance, heat resistance and frost resistance.
At ROSSITTIS we currently carry Black Horizon as 13 raw slabs in 20 mm thickness with a satin-honed finish. The satin-honed treatment gives the dramatic layering composition a somewhat more restrained character with muted reflection — ideal for modern stagings.
For anyone comparing Black Horizon with other materials: stylistically close are Brazilian migmatites with golden-warm veining such as Magma Gold (markedly more dramatic black-gold), Cosmic Gold and other Brazilian gold-black compositions. Materials with horizontal banding such as Tiger Black, Night Dream or dark sandstones also show similar visual ideas.

Care & fabrication
Black Horizon is a dense Brazilian hard rock with high compressive strength and complete acid, heat and frost resistance.
Daily cleaning: soft microfibre cloth, warm water and a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner.
Do not use: concentrated acids, steel wool.
Sealing: on satin-honed surfaces, advisable every 18–36 months depending on exposure. Important on the dark tonality to prevent oil saturation stains.
Kitchen worktop: hot pans can be placed directly on the surface.
Repair: scratches can be evened out by professional repolishing.
