A Brazilian hard rock from the Precambrian shield areas of Brazil. Characteristic is the dramatic horizontal bedding composition with a deep black base tone and powerful warm golden movement bands. Listed in the international trade as “granite”. High compressive strength, low water absorption, fully acid-, heat- and frost-resistant.

About Black Horizon

Black Horizon is a Brazilian hard rock from the extensive metamorphic shield areas of Brazil, with powerful horizontal movement bands.

In the slab image, Black Horizon shows an impressive, dramatic layering composition: a deep black ground tone run through by powerfully horizontal golden-honey-warm movement bands and creamy white accent lines. The vein figuring reads like a geological horizon composition — like sedimentary layering bands or a dramatic sunset against a dark sky. Hence the brand name 'Black Horizon'.

Finishes

Black Horizon is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Satin-honed

The satin surface is created by brushing, which selectively removes softer minerals and gives the surface a slight depth. A matte appearance with subtle light reflection and a warm feel to the touch. Easy to maintain, insensitive to scratches and suited to everyday use — a popular alternative to a polish in modern kitchens and living spaces.

Care & fabrication

Black Horizon is a dense Brazilian hard rock with high compressive strength and complete acid, heat and frost resistance.

Daily cleaning: soft microfibre cloth, warm water and a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner.

Do not use: concentrated acids, steel wool.

Sealing: on satin-honed surfaces, advisable every 18–36 months depending on exposure. Important on the dark tonality to prevent oil saturation stains.

Kitchen worktop: hot pans can be placed directly on the surface.

Repair: scratches can be evened out by professional repolishing.
