About Giallo Didone Samarcanda

Didone Limestone is a calm limestone in beige to cream tones that manages without pronounced fossils, coarse pores or dramatic veining. It is precisely this that makes the stone appear very balanced and architecturally usable. It brings warmth into the room without becoming ornamental, and is therefore well suited to larger areas on which homogeneity matters more than pictorial strength. The material has a Mediterranean but unobtrusive effect.

The stone comes from Tunisia. Petrographically it is a limestone; in the trade it is often carried alongside marble because of the way it is worked and its proximity within the range. Technically the stone is clearly to be classified as a limestone: the bulk density is around 2,610 kg/m³, water absorption around 2.76 per cent and compressive strength in a range of about 55.5 to 62.5 MPa. Added to this is the acid sensitivity typical of carbonate rocks. That is exactly what should honestly be borne in mind in use.

Finishes

Giallo Didone Samarcanda is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Satiniert

On sensitive surfaces, Didone Limestone should be professionally sealed. As a limestone it benefits markedly from this, even though a sealer offers no protection against acid.

For cleaning and care, pH-neutral natural stone cleaners, water and soft cloths or mops are suitable. Acidic cleaners, descalers and aggressive bathroom products are unsuitable for this stone.

On pale floors and wall surfaces, regular gentle cleaning and care makes sense so that dirt, limescale and traffic marks do not become unnecessarily visible. In wet areas in particular, soap residues should be removed promptly.

For kitchens, Didone only makes sense with realistic expectations. In quiet interiors, on floors and on walls the care effort remains considerably easier to manage.

Frequently asked questions

Is Didone Limestone suitable for a kitchen?

Only to a limited extent. As a limestone, Didone is acid-sensitive and more open-pored than hard quartzites or granites.

Which finishes are available for Didone Limestone?

The finishes available from stock are listed in the »Finishes« block on this page.

Where does Didone Limestone come from?

The stone comes from Tunisia.

How do I clean Didone Limestone?

For cleaning and care, use pH-neutral natural stone cleaners and a suitable sealer. Acidic cleaners are to be avoided.

Is Didone Limestone frost-resistant?

No reliable values for frost resistance are available here. With limestones of higher water absorption, external use should therefore be examined carefully.

Didone Limestone or a dense beige limestone?

Didone appears calm and homogeneous, but remains a comparatively open limestone. Denser limestones or ceramics are often more tolerant in everyday use.
