Diresco AU650 Beach Dark Grey belongs to the Beach collection of the Belgian engineered quartz manufacturer Diresco NV (based in Opglabbeek, province of Limburg, Belgium). Alongside Caesarstone, Cosentino-Silestone and Compac, Diresco is among the European premium manufacturers of polyester engineered quartz and has established a particular technical differentiation in the market with its BIO-UV line: materials with the AU or BU code prefix use a modified UV-stable binder system (instead of the classic unsaturated polyester) that remains permanently colour-fast outdoors as well — a property that classic engineered quartz materials such as Caesarstone Quartz Surfaces, the Silestone standard lines or our own CTX BasicQuarz® do not offer.
The Beach collection gathers designs inspired by the look of sand near the shore — finely grained, textured speckle patterns on neutral tonalities, from the palest Iceberg white through the mid-grey Medium Grey to the darkest anthracite version, AU650 Beach Dark Grey. Within this tonal range, AU650 marks the powerful dark version — an anthracite-grey solid colour oriented towards the colour tones of damp dark beach sand, slate and wetted asphalt surfaces.
In the slab picture, AU650 shows as an evenly dark anthracite-grey solid colour with a consistently fine speckling. The ground tone lies markedly below the mid-grey AU600 — a powerful, dark anthracite that shifts, depending on how the light falls, between a warm, muted charcoal and a cooler slate grey. Distributed across the surface are very fine and evenly distributed dark micro-speckles, which give the surface a subtle mineral, textured depth of effect without tipping over into a high-contrast statement look. Unlike strongly veined marble looks, the impression remains consistently monochrome, calm and restrained in design terms — a deliberately dark stage with a powerful tonality.
It is precisely this combination of a dark tonality and design restraint that is the strength of AU650. In modern kitchens, dark bathrooms, hospitality and contract architecture, demanding residential concepts and outdoor kitchens with a dramatic material statement, the stone develops a self-assured, urban atmosphere. Combined with pale timber (pale oak, ash, birch), brushed brass, Corten steel, black steel, glass or warm natural tones, the anthracite forms a powerful material basis that can take the lead or work as a reliably dark background — depending on the composition of the context.
Technically, Diresco is manufactured like all premium engineered quartz materials by the Bretonstone® vacuum vibro-compaction process. The BIO-UV version, however — unlike classic polyester-bound engineered quartz materials — uses a modified binder system that remains permanently stable against UV radiation. Concretely this means: Beach Dark Grey can be exposed to direct sunlight without loss of warranty — on the terrace, in the outdoor kitchen, at the pool surround, on the south-facing façade. That makes the material the direct alternative to porcelain (Laminam, Lioli Porcelain, CTX BasicKeramik®) outdoors, with the difference of a warmer feel and a less tile-like character.
Further technical properties: non-porous (no impregnation required), Mohs hardness 6–7 (quartz as the main component), good acid resistance to household acids, high compressive and flexural strength, low water absorption. On heat resistance, Diresco states for the Beach line a direct heat exposure of around 160 °C on a dry surface — somewhat more than with classic polyester engineered quartz materials (150 °C), but not as unlimited as with porcelain. Hot pans, pots and irons should therefore be set down here too only on trivets.
Important to note with dark Beach materials: limescale hazes and splashes of hard water are markedly more visible on the dark ground tone than with paler solid-colour versions. That is not a material weakness but a visual consequence of the dark tonality — with regular care the surface stays permanently controlled.
Ex works, Diresco produces AU650 Beach Dark Grey in the format 318 × 155 cm in thicknesses of 12, 20 and 30 mm. On request we produce from them kitchen worktops, outdoor kitchen counters, vanity tops, floor tiles, pool surrounds, terrace tables, wall claddings, window sills and project-specific bespoke cuts for interior and exterior applications.
For anyone comparing AU650 Beach Dark Grey with other materials: within the Diresco portfolio, the sister designs AU300 Beach Iceberg (pale white), AU600 Beach Medium Grey (mid-grey), BU011 Belgian Fog (paler, Belgian Grey collection), BU012 Belgian Storm (markedly darker and more dramatic with concrete veining) and BU015 Belgian Earth (warm mineral mid-grey) are related UV-stable materials. Among other brands, Caesarstone 6041 Nordic Loft (mid-grey, NOT UV-stable), the Silestone Loft line and Compac Concrete are comparable concrete-look designs — but these are predominantly not UV-stable and therefore approved only for interior applications. In the field of porcelain, Optimum Surfaces Concrete Graphite 007 offers a comparably dark concrete look with full heat resistance.
Our honest assessment: Diresco AU650 Beach Dark Grey is a distinctly powerful choice for projects looking for a dark anthracite concrete look in genuine fabrication quality — and above all with genuine suitability for exterior use. The UV stability of the BIO-UV line is a serious technical advantage over standard engineered quartz materials. Anyone who needs maximum heat resistance above 200 °C or is looking for genuine natural stone character should reach for porcelain or genuine anthracite natural stone (dark Pietra Piasentina, black slate). But anyone who wants the calm, precise, dark anthracite-grey Beach look with full exterior approval will find here a technically well-differentiated solution with clear practical fitness outdoors.
