Diresco BU011 Belgian Fog is the lightest concrete-look variant of the Belgian Belgian Grey collection: an almost monochrome, soft light concrete grey tone with minimally fine speckling and barely visible movement. From the BIO-UV line — UV-stable and therefore expressly approved for internal AND external applications such as outdoor kitchens, pool surrounds and façades.

A UV-stabilised polyester engineered quartz from the Diresco BIO-UV line (BU code prefix). Main constituents: ground natural quartz of various grain sizes (~93 %), a modified UV-stable polymer binder and mineral pigments. Manufactured in the Bretonstone® vacuum vibro-compaction process at Diresco NV in Opglabbeek, Belgium. Mohs hardness 6–7, non-porous, no sealing required. In contrast to classic polyester engineered quartz materials (Caesarstone Quartz Surfaces, standard Silestone, Compac), the BIO-UV line is expressly UV-stable and therefore approved for direct sunlight outdoors — outdoor kitchens, pool surrounds, façades, terrace tables. BU011 Belgian Fog is the lightest concrete-look version of the Belgian Grey collection, alongside the darker BU012 Belgian Storm and BU015 Belgian Earth.

Diresco BU011 Belgian Fog belongs to the Belgian Grey collection of the Belgian engineered quartz manufacturer Diresco NV (founded in 1996, located at Opglabbeek in the province of Limburg, Belgium). Alongside Caesarstone, Cosentino-Silestone and Compac, Diresco is among the European premium manufacturers of polyester engineered quartz, and with the BIO-UV line it has established a particular technical differentiation in the market: materials with the BU code prefix use a modified UV-stable binder system (instead of the classic unsaturated polyester) that remains permanently colourfast outdoors as well — a property that classic engineered quartz materials such as Caesarstone Quartz Surfaces or the standard Silestone lines do not offer.

DIRESCO Quarz BU011 Belgian Fog is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Polished

A glossy surface with the highest possible degree of colour intensity — the standard finish in the engineered stone and engineered quartz segment. Easy to care for in everyday use and resistant to common household acids. A prestigious choice for kitchen worktops, wall claddings and exposed surfaces with a classic high-gloss character.

Velvet

The surface is brushed, much like a satin finish — softer minerals are removed and a subtle depth with a matte effect is created. The velvety soft feel is characteristic and design-led. Easy to maintain and suited to everyday use; an elegant choice for demanding kitchen and wall surfaces where a softly tactile appearance is wanted.

Care & fabrication

Diresco BU011 Belgian Fog is a non-porous BIO-UV engineered quartz and needs no sealing. Care is markedly simpler than with natural stone.

Daily cleaning: a soft microfibre cloth, warm water, mild washing-up liquid or a neutral multi-purpose cleaner. Afterwards wipe over with clear water and rub dry. Light concrete-look surfaces benefit from regular cleaning, since films of grease and limescale can otherwise disturb the calm effect of the surface.

Do not use: scouring agents, steel wool, coarse cleaning pads, highly concentrated acids (hydrochloric acid, sulphuric acid), strongly alkaline cleaners (oven cleaner, drain cleaner), acetone-containing solvents or chlorine-based bleaches — on accidental contact rinse off immediately with plenty of water.

Heat resistance: markedly better than classic polyester engineered quartz, but not unlimited. With direct heat input above 180 °C the binder can become embrittled in the long term — hot pans, pots and irons should therefore ALWAYS be set down on trivets here too. For maximum heat resistance choose porcelain.

UV stability: yes, fully. The BIO-UV line is expressly approved for direct sunlight outdoors — outdoor kitchens, pool surrounds, façades and terrace tables are unproblematic fields of application that would not be possible with classic engineered quartz.

Kitchen worktop: cutting work exclusively on a separate chopping board — a Mohs hardness of 6–7 protects against the usual scratches, but steel knives can produce fine microscratches in combination with hard residues of the material being cut.

Stain treatment: wipe away fresh splashes (wine, coffee, tomato sauce, turmeric) immediately. Remove stubborn stains with warm water, a soft cloth and a neutral all-purpose cleaner — NO scouring agent, NO concentrated acid.

External application: regular cleaning of pollen, bird droppings, algal deposits, de-icing salt residues and plant sap with warm water and a neutral stone cleaner. In winter: rinse off de-icing salt splashes thoroughly in spring, since salts can lead to encrustation on any material surface.

Repair: fine microscratches in the polish can be evened out by professional repolishing. With deeper mechanical damage, a Diresco fabricator works with colour-matched repair fillers and a final repolishing or resanding of the Velvet surface.

Frequently asked questions

What does the BU in the code BU011 mean?

BU stands for “BIO-UV” and at Diresco denotes the UV-stable external line. Materials with the BU code prefix use a modified binder system that withstands direct sunlight permanently — unlike classic polyester-bound engineered quartz materials (Caesarstone, standard Silestone, Compac), which do not tolerate UV radiation in the long term and are therefore approved only for internal applications.

Can I use Belgian Fog outdoors?

Yes, expressly. The BIO-UV line is approved for all common external applications: outdoor kitchens, pool surrounds, terrace tables, façade elements, roofed and freely weathered surfaces. For the BIO-UV line, Diresco gives an external warranty that the standard Diresco lines do not have.

How does Belgian Fog differ from Belgian Storm and Belgian Earth?

All three are part of the Belgian Grey collection with concrete and bluestone inspiration. Belgian Fog (BU011) is the lightest version — a neutral, calm light concrete grey. Belgian Storm (BU012) is markedly darker, a dramatic anthracite grey with stronger movement. Belgian Earth (BU015) lies between them — a mid-grey tone with a rather warm, mineral effect. The aesthetic choice depends on how light or how dramatic the concrete look is to appear in the room.

Is Belgian Fog as heat-resistant as porcelain?

No, not quite. BIO-UV engineered quartz materials are more heat-resistant than classic polyester quartz (around up to 180 °C instead of 150–160 °C), but not as unlimitedly heat-resistant as genuine porcelain (Laminam, Lioli Porcelain, Caesarstone Mineral™), which copes with direct pan heat without a trivet. For maximum insensitivity to heat, porcelain is the more robust choice.

In which thicknesses and finishes is Belgian Fog available?

At the works, Diresco produces Belgian Fog in 12, 20 and 30 mm thickness with the two standard finishes Poli (polished) and Velvet (matt, velvety). In the current ROSSITTIS stock we hold 20 mm and 30 mm. Diresco standard slab format: 318 × 155 cm — somewhat larger than the Caesarstone standard format, which allows large-area applications with fewer butt joints.

Belgian Fog or genuine Belgian bluestone — which suits better?

Belgian Fog is markedly lighter than genuine Belgian Pierre Bleue (bluestone / Petit Granit, which shows a typically darker bluish grey) and appears overall calmer, more technical and more even. Bluestone is geologically more authentic, but has a markedly open-pored carbonate structure, is acid-sensitive and needs regular care. Anyone who wants the technically clean, light concrete picture with full approval for external use is better served by Belgian Fog. Anyone looking for the geologically authentic character of Belgian architectural stones goes to Pierre Bleue.

How much material do you currently have in stock?
