Granite from Brazil

Jandira Especial

Jandira Especial is a Brazilian migmatite from the Precambrian shield region with a powerfully speckled black-and-white groundmass and warm rust-pink feldspar accents. A classic “salt and pepper” migmatite with high compressive strength, acid resistance and full suitability for frost — a strongly characterful choice for kitchen worktops, stairs and external façades.

About Jandira Especial

Jandira Especial is a Brazilian migmatite from the Precambrian shield regions of Brazil — probably from the states of Bahia, Espírito Santo or Minas Gerais, the same major geological structure that also yields materials such as Cosmic Black, Magma Gold and Night Dream. Geologically it is a migmatite (a high-grade metamorphic mixed rock) in which the parent rock was partially melted under extreme pressure and temperature loading.

In the international stone trade, Jandira Especial is frequently carried simply as a “granite” — commercially widespread, but petrographically more precisely a migmatite. This classification explains the characteristic slab: two clearly distinguishable components — the pale, crystallised melt fraction (leucosome: a feldspar-quartz composition) and the dark, residual mafic fraction (melanosome: pyroxenes, hornblendes, biotite).

Finishes

Jandira Especial is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Poliert

Jandira Especial is a dense Brazilian migmatite with high compressive strength, low water absorption and very good acid, heat and frost resistance.

Daily cleaning: a soft microfibre cloth, warm water and a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner.

Do not use: concentrated acids, steel wool, coarse scouring sponges.

Sealing: on polished surfaces, recommended every 18–36 months depending on the loading.

Kitchen worktop: hot pans can be set down directly. Steel knives leave no scratches. Wine and lemon leave no etch marks. Nevertheless do cutting work on a separate chopping board, to spare the blades.

Stain treatment: wipe fresh splashes (wine, coffee, tomato sauce, oil) away immediately.

Outdoors: suitable for frost given correct installation with a fall and drainage. Use de-icing salt sparingly in winter.

Repair: scratches in the polish can be evened out by professional re-polishing.

Frequently asked questions

Is Jandira Especial really a granite?

Petrographically it is more precisely a migmatite (a high-grade metamorphic mixed rock) — the pale areas are crystallised melt (leucosome), the dark dots are the mafic-residual fraction (melanosome). In international trade it is often carried simply as a “granite”. What is relevant for the application is the full hard stone robustness of both classifications.

Where does Jandira Especial come from?

From the Brazilian migmatite complexes, probably from Bahia, Espírito Santo or Minas Gerais — part of the Precambrian Brazilian craton.

Is Jandira Especial suitable for a kitchen?

Yes, excellently. With high compressive strength and full acid and heat resistance, Jandira Especial is a very robust choice for kitchen worktops.

Is Jandira Especial suitable for external applications?

Yes, fully. Brazilian migmatites have very low water absorption and are suitable for frost. Given correct installation, they are approved for all external applications.
