About Luna Grey
Luna Grey works through a calm light grey base tone that shimmers slightly silvery depending on the incidence of light. The veining is restrained, the slab appearance homogeneous — and it is precisely this that makes the stone interesting for architects and planners looking for a calm but lively background. Luna Grey is suited to modern bathrooms, large floor surfaces, wall claddings and kitchen worktops in which attention is meant to lie on furniture, lighting or material combinations, not on an expressive slab appearance.
Geologically, Luna Grey is a metamorphic quartzite from Indian deposits. Quartzites form when quartz-rich sandstones are transformed over millions of years under pressure and temperature in the Earth's crust — the original quartz grains fuse into a dense fabric, while embedded mica particles provide the characteristic silvery shimmer. With a Mohs hardness of around 7, Luna Grey is among the hardest natural stones in the range.
Technically, Luna Grey benefits from its quartz-dominated mineralogy: acids from wine, lemon, vinegar or coffee leave no etch marks on the polished surface. Water absorption is low, the material is frost-resistant and suitable for external use in most configurations. Compressive and flexural strength lie in the upper range of the natural stone scale — a property that makes the material a capable choice for kitchen worktops and heavily frequented circulation areas.

As a quartzite, Luna Grey is markedly easier to care for than light grey marbles. The polished surface tolerates acids from wine, lemon, vinegar or coffee without etch marks — that is the decisive difference from lime-bound stones. Even so, on kitchen worktops and vanity tops we recommend a single application of a silane or polysiloxane-based sealer, because it prevents oily and greasy soiling from penetrating.
For daily cleaning, clear warm water and a soft microfibre cloth are sufficient. For heavier soiling use a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner; acidic or strongly alkaline household cleaners are not needed. Hot pots and pans can be set down directly, because quartzite is heat-resistant.
