About Marron Damascato

Marron Damascato lives on dark warmth. The stone shows a chocolate brown with darker brown clouds and, in places, a damask-like movement that gives it a softer, more luxurious expression than strictly banded brown tones. It is precisely this flowing pattern that recalls woven damask fabric — hence the name. In bathrooms, wall panels, fireplace claddings and furniture-adjacent fit-out, the material looks especially elegant, because the warm clouding charges rooms with atmosphere.

Geologically, Marron Damascato is a dense dark brown limestone, dolomitic in character in some versions. Limestones form from marine carbonate deposits consolidated over millions of years — the cloudy pattern arises from varying concentrations of iron and clay minerals during sedimentation. The fine-grained, closed structure allows a very high-quality polish, which is why the material is carried in many ranges as “Marron Damascato marble”, though it behaves like a classic polished limestone.

Care & fabrication

Marron Damascato is an acid-sensitive limestone. Wine, lemon juice, vinegar, cola, sanitary cleaners or limescale removers leave etch marks on the polished surface — visible as matt shadows or a loss of gloss. On dark brown surfaces such changes are visually particularly conspicuous.

For all applications an impregnation on a silane or polysiloxane basis is obligatory. It prevents the penetration of water, oil and colourants and reduces staining — but does not remove the acid sensitivity. On polished surfaces we recommend refreshing the impregnation every 1-2 years.

Daily care is done with a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner and a soft microfibre cloth. Avoid vinegar cleaners, cement haze removers, acidic sanitary cleaners and strongly degreasing products. Wine, coffee, oil, lemon and cosmetic products should not be left to act on polished surfaces for long.

In bathrooms, water residues, soap residues and cosmetic products should be removed regularly, because they quickly stand out visually on dark surfaces.

For kitchen worktops, Marron Damascato is only suitable with reservations — acids from everyday cooking can leave a visible patina.

For permanently weathered exterior surfaces the material is not suitable.

With reservations. As an acid-sensitive limestone it works only with accepted patina, consistent impregnation and immediate removal of acids. For carefree brown kitchen worktops we recommend a brown quartzite or granite.

Is Marron Damascato frost-resistant and suitable for outdoors?

For permanently weathered exterior surfaces the material is not suitable — as a limestone it reacts sensitively to de-icing salt and acidic precipitation. Indoors it is stable over the long term with proper care.

Marron Damascato or Marron Emperador — which suits better?

Both are polishable brown limestones with a similar care requirement. Marron Emperador looks blockier and more classical with net-like veining; Marron Damascato softer and cloudier with a flowing damask pattern. For atmospheric rooms, Marron Damascato is the better choice.
