Mount Black is a black Indian hard rock with an expressive pale pattern. The ground surface is deep black to anthracite, run through by white to silver-grey veins, mineral waves and occasional lines of movement. This makes the stone look livelier than a homogeneous black solid-tone material, while remaining markedly more controlled than strongly patterned Brazilian drama stones. For kitchen worktops, wall claddings, stairs and dark accent surfaces that is a very interesting mixture of calm and character.
The stone comes from India. In the natural stone trade, Mount Black, like other Indian black hard rocks, is clearly assigned to the granite family — visually and in material terms it falls into the family of black Indian hard rocks, comparable to Absolute Black or Premium Black, but with a more distinct vein pattern.
Technically, Mount Black is robustly set up as an Indian hard rock. Indian black hard rocks of this family typically lie at 2,900–3,050 kg/m³ bulk density, water absorption markedly below 0.3 %, compressive strength often in the range 180–250 MPa. Acid resistance and frost resistance are very good. In practice this means: citrus, vinegar and wine do the surface no harm, and exterior applications too are permanently possible. For kitchens, bathrooms, terraces and façades that is a very carefree profile.
Polished, Mount Black shows maximum depth — the black becomes mirror-like, the white veins stand out sharply. The honest assessment: Mount Black is not an absolutely homogeneous black stone like Nero Assoluto, and not a dramatically patterned exotic. Its strength lies in a calm yet lively mixture — deep black with a controlled pale pattern, combined with the everyday fitness typical of an Indian hard rock. Polished
Polishing is the most classic finish in the hard stone segment — a mirror-smooth, high-gloss surface with the highest possible colour intensity and maximum depth effect in the mineral structure. As an acid-resistant silicate stone, polished granite is easy to care for and the first choice for kitchen worktops, wall claddings and prestigious exposed surfaces.
Satin-honed
The satin surface is created by brushing, which selectively removes softer minerals and gives the surface a slight depth. A matte appearance with subtle light reflection and a warm feel to the touch. Easy to maintain, insensitive to scratches and suited to everyday use — a popular alternative to a polish in modern kitchens and living spaces.
Care & fabrication
As an Indian hard rock, Mount Black is easy to care for. An impregnation is not obligatory, but makes sense on polished worktops — it makes cleaning and care easier and reduces visible water and soap rings.
For cleaning and care, pH-neutral natural stone cleaners and a soft microfibre cloth are enough. Because the stone is acid-resistant, citrus, wine or vinegar do the surface no harm — a clear advantage over black marbles.
On polished dark surfaces, water marks, limescale rings and fingerprints become visible more quickly than on matt surfaces. Regular dry wiping after cleaning keeps the look even. Outdoors, a slip-resistant textured finish and clean laying matter more than care chemistry. As a hard rock, Mount Black remains permanently resilient there.
