About New Nero Marquina Alexander Black

New Nero Marquina Alexander Black lives from the familiar image: a black ground, contrasting white veins, a clear effect of depth. Compared with the Spanish original the material often reads as somewhat more controlled and more evenly drawn — a deliberately stylistic alternative within the same design field. It is precisely this legibility that makes the stone interesting for bathrooms, wall pictures, stairs and elegant interiors in which the classic black-and-white aesthetic is called for, but a Turkish version is preferred.

Care & fabrication

New Nero Marquina Alexander Black is an acid-sensitive limestone. Wine, lemon juice, vinegar, cola, sanitary cleaners or descalers leave etch marks on the polished surface — visible as matt shadows or a loss of gloss. On black polished stone, reaction marks and matt patches stand out particularly clearly.

For all applications an impregnation on a silane or polysiloxane basis is mandatory. It prevents water, oil and colourants from penetrating and reduces staining — but it does not remove the acid sensitivity. On polished surfaces we recommend refreshing the impregnation every 1-2 years.

Day-to-day care is carried out with a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner and a soft microfibre cloth. On dark surfaces you should not work too wet and should take residues off cleanly and dry, so that no streaks form. Avoid acidic cleaners, descalers and aggressive bathroom or kitchen chemicals.

Citrus, wine, coffee, oil and cosmetics should be removed promptly from horizontal surfaces. For heavily used kitchens a realistic expectation is important — the material is decoratively strong, but not as secure in everyday use as black granite.

For permanently weathered exterior surfaces the material is not suitable.

Frequently asked questions

Is New Nero Marquina Alexander Black suitable for the kitchen?

Only to a limited extent. With good strength values the stone is technically load-bearing, but as an acid-sensitive limestone it remains considerably more demanding than black granite. For carefree black kitchen worktops we recommend Toros Siyah or Nero Assoluto.

Which surface finishes are there for Alexander Black?

The surface finishes available from stock are listed in the »Finishes« block on this page.

Where does New Nero Marquina Alexander Black come from?

The material comes from Turkish occurrences. Characteristic is the deep black ground field with white calcite veins — a controlled version in the style of the Spanish Nero Marquina.

How do I clean and care for New Nero Marquina Alexander Black?

Impregnation is mandatory. Daily care with a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner and a microfibre cloth. On dark stone, wipe dry afterwards. Avoid acidic cleaners and aggressive special chemicals.

Is New Nero Marquina Alexander Black suitable for outdoor use?

For permanently weathered exterior surfaces the material is not suitable — as a limestone it reacts sensitively to road salt and acidic precipitation. Indoors it is the clearly better choice.

New Nero Marquina Alexander Black or Nero Marquina — which fits better?

Both are acid-sensitive, polishable black limestones with a similar need for care. The Spanish Nero Marquina has the iconic, somewhat wilder veining with tradition; Alexander Black reads as more ordered and more even. What is decisive is the specific slab and the pattern wanted.

What does New Nero Marquina Alexander Black cost?

The price depends on the batch, thickness, surface finish and fabrication — with natural stone there is no serious flat rate per square metre. Business customers see prices once their B2B account is activated; private customers receive a complete quote through a fabricator near them.
