About Olympia Red
Olympia Red lives from a warm base tone playing towards brick red and rust brown, through which fine, pale calcite veins run — some almost whitish, others tending towards pink or cream. The slab image reads as warm and Mediterranean, with clear depth but without expressive movement. It is precisely this character that makes the stone interesting for classic interior architecture, bathrooms, wall cladding, fireplace surrounds and prestige floor surfaces — wherever a warm, southern material effect is called for.
Geologically, Olympia Red is a dense, polishable limestone from Greek deposits — Greece has been one of the classic natural stone districts of Europe since antiquity. Limestones form from marine carbonate deposits consolidated over millions of years — the warm red colouring derives from iron-oxide-rich mineral inclusions, the pale veins from secondary calcite. The fine-grained, closed structure allows a very high-quality polish, which is why the material is carried in many ranges as a “red marble”, although it behaves like a classic polished limestone.
Technically, Olympia Red behaves typically for a high-quality polished limestone: dense surface, good workability, acid-sensitive. Wine, lemon, vinegar or sanitary cleaners leave etch marks on the polished surface. With a typical bulk density of around 2,700 kg/m³ the material is well established for wall, floor and interior fit-out applications.

Compared with other red natural stones such as Rosso Verona, Olympia Red reads as somewhat earthier and more matt in its base tone, without losing its classic character. Against red hard rocks such as Rosso Toscana it lacks the acid resistance — the material belongs indoors. Anyone seeking maximum acid resistance for a red kitchen worktop is better served by a red granite.
Olympia Red is an acid-sensitive limestone. Wine, lemon juice, vinegar, cola, sanitary cleaners or descalers leave etch marks on the polished surface — visible as dull shadows or loss of gloss.
For all applications, a silane- or polysiloxane-based sealer is essential. It prevents the ingress of water, oil and colouring agents and reduces staining — but it does not remove the acid sensitivity. On polished surfaces we recommend refreshing the sealer every 1-2 years.
Daily care is carried out with a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner and a soft microfibre cloth. Avoid vinegar cleaners, cement haze removers, acidic sanitary cleaners and strongly alkaline products. Wine, coffee, oil, lemon and cosmetic products should not be left to act for long on polished surfaces.
For kitchen worktops, Olympia Red is only conditionally suitable — acids from everyday cooking can leave a visible patina.
For permanently weathered external surfaces the material is only conditionally suitable. Indoors it is stable over the long term with proper care.
