Pietra di Liguria type PDT is a Spanish sandstone with a warm creamy sand-coloured ground tone and a fine, organically natural sedimentary structure — a calm Mediterranean choice for wall claddings, exterior façades, floor areas and Mediterranean-warm interior architecture. The C220 treatment carried in ROSSITTIS stock gives the material a softly matt, authentically natural stone character.
Spanish sandstone (a clastic sedimentary rock), despite the brand name “Pietra di Liguria” — the addition “Typ PDT” marks a specific sorting variant. Petrographically and geographically NOT identical to the genuine Italian Pietra di Liguria from Liguria. Mineralogically dominated by quartz sand grains with iron oxide pigmentation. Moderately acid-sensitive, Mohs hardness approx. 3–4.

About Pietra Di Liguria Typ PDT
Pietra di Liguria type PDT is a Spanish sandstone. Despite the Italian brand name “Pietra di Liguria”, the material comes from Spain — the “type PDT” addition marks the grade sold in the international stone trade as a Liguria-look sandstone.
Geologically it is a clastic sedimentary rock whose original sand grains were bonded during diagenesis under pressure and by cementing solutions into a solid building stone. The warm creamy sand-coloured tonality arises from the iron oxide pigmentation of the quartz sand grains — typical of Mediterranean sandstones.
In the slab picture, Pietra di Liguria type PDT shows a warm creamy sand-coloured ground tone with a restrained, organically natural grain and fine sedimentary accents. The look is restrained in design terms and atmospherically warm — a classic Mediterranean building stone character without a dramatic vein pattern. In places, subtle layering lines are visible that reflect the geometry of the original sedimentary deposition.
For use this means: Pietra di Liguria type PDT is an excellent choice for exterior façades, floor and wall tiles, wall claddings, skirtings, wall elements and Mediterranean-warm interior architecture. The calm warm tonality harmonises excellently with Corten steel, brushed brass, dark timber, bronze and muted earth tones.
Technically, Pietra di Liguria type PDT, like all sandstones, is moderately acid-sensitive and needs a corresponding awareness of care. The Mediterranean building tradition shows, however, that such sandstones last for centuries when properly laid and maintained.
The surface finishes available from stock are listed in the »Finishes« block further down. On request we produce from them wall claddings, exterior façades, floor and wall tiles, skirtings, window sills and project-specific bespoke cuts.
For anyone comparing Pietra di Liguria type PDT with other materials: stylistically close are other Mediterranean sandstones such as Pietra Serena (Italy), the original Pietra Liguria (Italy — the genuine Liguria sandstone), Spanish beige sandstones such as Marcenia and Mediterranean bioclastic limestones. Anyone who needs the same material picture robust and acid-resistant should go to a warm beige granite or porcelain.
Our honest assessment: Pietra di Liguria type PDT is a particularly practicable choice for Mediterranean-warm exterior architecture and calm wall and floor surfaces with a claim to genuine natural stone atmosphere. Anyone who needs maximum acid and frost resistance should reach for granite or porcelain. But anyone who values the calm, elegant, warm creamy sandstone character will find an economically attractive Mediterranean solution here.

Pietra Di Liguria Typ PDT is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.
Honed C220
Matt appearance created by fine honing with a C220 grit — the level surface has a calm look, and light honing marks are possible. More maintenance-intensive than polished, but with a characterful, natural appearance. A choice for sandstone floor areas and wall claddings that call for a matt Mediterranean effect.
Care & fabrication
Pietra di Liguria type PDT is a sandstone with moderate acid sensitivity and medium water absorption.
Daily cleaning: a soft cloth or soft mop, clear water and a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner.
Do not use: acidic cleaners, limescale removers, scouring agents.
Impregnation: recommendable directly after installation and, depending on loading, every 12–18 months. Particularly important on the C220 surface, because the micro-structure can take up dirt.
Façade and exterior application: frost-proof when properly laid with drainage. Use de-icing salt sparingly in winter.
Repair: scratches and matt spots can be evened out by proper re-grinding.
Frequently asked questions
Does Pietra di Liguria type PDT come from Italy?
No, despite the Italian name the material comes from Spain. The brand name quotes the Liguria sandstone look, but petrographically and geographically it is a material in its own right.
Where does Pietra di Liguria type PDT come from?
From Spain.
Is Pietra di Liguria type PDT suitable for the kitchen?
Possible, but not the first choice. As a sandstone it is moderately acid-sensitive. Better suited to wall claddings, vanity tops and prestige areas.
What does the finish designation “C220” mean?
C220 is a finely honed treatment with a 220 grit — a matt, softly silky surface between classically honed and satin. This treatment suits warm Mediterranean sandstones particularly well, because it makes the organically natural grain legible.
Which thicknesses are available?
In ROSSITTIS stock we carry a 20 mm thickness.
How much material do you currently have in stock?
We currently carry 17 raw slabs of Pietra di Liguria type PDT in 20 mm thickness.
What does Pietra Di Liguria Typ PDT cost?
The price depends on the batch, thickness, surface finish and fabrication — with natural stone there is no serious flat rate per square metre. Business customers see prices once their B2B account is activated; private customers receive a complete quote through a fabricator near them.
