About Porfido Rosso

Porfido Rosso is a material with a clear origin in external construction. The colour range extends from red through red-brown to violet tones and thus appears markedly livelier than grey setts or neutral granites. In urban space, on paths, terraces and stairs in particular, this porphyry has long held a firm place. At ROSSITTIS we carry Porfido Rosso for projects that seek to combine durability, colour and the classical robustness of natural stone.

The stone comes from Italy, from the Adige valley and the porphyry region in Trentino-South Tyrol. Petrographically it is a rhyolitic porphyry. Such materials have been established in external construction for decades, because they are strong in compression, frost-capable, abrasion-resistant and altogether very robust. That also explains their strong presence in public space.

Finishes

Porfido Rosso is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Satin-honed

The surface is brushed — softer minerals are removed in a targeted way, creating a slight depth with a matt appearance. As with granite it is easy to care for and suited to everyday use, and acid-resistant. A restrained finish that gives the characteristic porphyry minerals a subtle, matt stage.

Care & fabrication

Porfido Rosso can be cleaned and cared for easily in everyday use. Outdoors, a sealing treatment is mostly not obligatory; for finer interior surfaces it can make sense. Clean the stone with water or pH-neutral stone cleaners. You should avoid oily care films and unnecessarily aggressive chemicals on textured surfaces.
