About River Grey

River Grey owes its name to its appearance: pale white veins run through a grey ground tone, flowing like the course of a river — some fine and straight, others powerful and with pronounced movement. The slab pattern is lively and expressive without tipping over into the dramatic. It is precisely this flowing character that makes the stone interesting for book-matched wall surfaces, bathrooms, large floor areas, reception areas and prestigious interior fit-out in which the material is to function as an architectural carrier of imagery.

Care & fabrication

River Grey is an acid-sensitive limestone. Wine, lemon juice, vinegar, cola, sanitary cleaners or descalers leave etch marks on the polished surface — visible as matt shadows or a loss of gloss.

For all applications an impregnation on a silane or polysiloxane basis is mandatory. It prevents water, oil and colourants from penetrating and reduces staining — but it does not remove the acid sensitivity. On polished surfaces we recommend refreshing the impregnation every 1-2 years.

Day-to-day care is carried out with a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner and a soft microfibre cloth. Avoid vinegar cleaners, cement haze removers, acidic sanitary cleaners and strongly alkaline agents. Wine, coffee, oil, lemon and cosmetic products should not be left to act for long on polished surfaces.

For kitchen worktops River Grey is only suitable to a limited extent — acids from everyday cooking can leave a visible patina.

For permanently weathered exterior surfaces the material is not suitable.

Frequently asked questions

Is River Grey suitable for the kitchen?

Only to a limited extent. As an acid-sensitive limestone it works only where patina is accepted, impregnation is consistent and acids are removed immediately. For carefree grey kitchen worktops we recommend a grey quartzite such as Luna Grey.

Which surface finishes are there for River Grey?

The surface finishes available from stock are listed in the »Finishes« block on this page.

Where does River Grey come from?

River Grey comes from Turkish occurrences. Characteristic is the combination of a grey ground tone and flowing whitish vein lines — a balanced, lively movement.

How do I clean and care for River Grey?

Impregnation is mandatory. Daily care with a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner and a microfibre cloth. Avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners. Wipe wine, coffee, oil or lemon off immediately.

Is River Grey frost-resistant and suitable for outdoor use?

For permanently weathered exterior surfaces the material is not suitable — as a limestone it reacts sensitively to road salt and acidic precipitation. Indoors it is stable over the long term given proper care.

River Grey or Bardiglio marble — which fits better?

Both have similar care requirements. Through its flowing vein drawing, River Grey reads as livelier and more expressive; classic Bardiglio marble is calmer and more evenly coloured. Anyone looking for a legible, flowing slab pattern is right with River Grey.

What does River Grey cost?

The price depends on the batch, thickness, surface finish and fabrication — with natural stone there is no serious flat rate per square metre. Business customers see prices once their B2B account is activated; private customers receive a complete quote through a fabricator near them.
