As an Italian calcite marble, Statuario Venato Classico is acid-sensitive. With a Mohs hardness of 3–4, very low water absorption (0.14–0.19 %) and pronounced acid reactivity, the stone calls for deliberate care and consistent impregnation. These points should be deliberately taken into account when choosing the material — Statuario Venato is a deliberately chosen premium design material with an iconic Italian character, not a maintenance-free all-rounder.
For interior applications we recommend a careful silane- or polysiloxane-based impregnation at first installation. With its low water absorption, Statuario Venato is practically non-absorbent — the impregnation serves as additional insurance against acid etch marks. On polished interior surfaces we recommend a refresh every 1–2 years, and in heavily used areas a check every 6–12 months. This markedly more frequent refresh than with hard stones is typical for marble.
Day-to-day care is done with a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner and a soft cloth or microfibre mop. Clear warm water is usually enough. Acidic cleaners (vinegar, citric acid, sanitary cleaners, descalers) are STRICTLY to be avoided — they attack the marble immediately and leave dull etch marks that can only be removed by professional regrinding. Cola, wine, tomato sauce and citrus fruits can also leave etch marks on untreated surfaces — if spilled, blot them immediately with a dry cloth (do not wipe, because wiping would spread the acid across the surface).
For kitchen worktops Statuario Venato Classico is suitable only with reservations — it is not fully acid-resistant and not fully cut- and scratch-resistant (Mohs hardness 3–4 against 7+ for granite/quartzite). Heat resistance is given, but hot pans should not be set down directly (use trivets). For intensively used professional kitchens we recommend alternative hard stones such as Mahogany India or Steel Grey. For an elegant designer kitchen with the highest premium ambitions and an iconic Italian character, Statuario Venato is an expressive choice — but with a clear expectation as regards care and an acceptance of patina. Anyone who values the patina and the natural ageing process of a marble will find in Statuario Venato a timeless companion.
For bathrooms and wellness areas Statuario Venato Classico is one of the most exclusive choices — the iconic white material effect with its dramatic veining brings a particular premium atmosphere. Where there is direct exposure to water (shower walls, bath surrounds, vanity units), careful impregnation is mandatory and acidic sanitary cleaners are strictly to be avoided. The surface finishes available from stock are listed in the »Finishes« block further down.
For exterior applications Statuario Venato, like all marbles, is only recommended with reservations — polished surfaces are not as lastingly stable outdoors as with granite or quartzite. UV exposure and weathering lead to a visible loss of gloss over the years. Calcite marbles also react particularly sensitively to acidic precipitation in urban environments. The ideal field of use is clearly the high-quality interior.
