Venezian Blue

The characteristic dark anthracite-blue tonality of Venezian Blue arises from a high proportion of iron-rich mafic minerals (pyroxenes, hornblendes) — the blue-seeming colouring is an optical subtlety shown by many dark granulites and anorthosites, similar to the well-known Volga Blue or Madura Gold.

In the slab image, Venezian Blue shows a dark anthracite-blue ground tone with a fine granular speckling. In places, subtle warm red-brown or gold-bronze mineral points can be made out — garnet phenocrysts or iron oxide accents that lend the dark tonality a fine liveliness. A calm, refined composition with a distinctly elegant character.

For the application this means: Venezian Blue is an excellent choice for kitchen worktops with a dark accent, stairs, vanity tops, façades and prestige interior surfaces. In combination with warm timber, brass and muted earth tones, the material develops a luxurious, dark atmosphere.

Technically, Venezian Blue is a high-performance dimension stone of the granulite class with a Mohs hardness of around 7, high compressive strength, low water absorption, complete acid resistance, heat resistance and frost resistance.

For anyone comparing Venezian Blue with other materials: stylistically close are Volga Blue (a Russian-Ukrainian anorthosite with dramatic blue reflections), Bahia Blue, Azul Bahia (Brazilian sodalite-bearing hard stones — markedly more dramatic with clearly recognisable blue mineral zones) and other dark granulites. By comparison, Venezian Blue is calmer and more uniform.
