Verde Tropical is one of the most expressive banded gneisses in the Brazilian range — a classic multi-coloured stone of movement with a folded, banded material signature. Characteristic are powerful diagonal bands in an interplay of dark green to grey-green runs, deep black biotite and hornblende stripes, light grey to white quartz and feldspar fields and rust-brown to copper-coloured garnet and iron oxide accents. The slab shows the typical folded movement signature of a highly metamorphic gneiss — the parallel mineral runs are formed by high-pressure and high-temperature metamorphism and give the material an almost painterly depth and a lively, shifting appearance. Geologically, Verde Tropical is a Brazilian gneiss from the long-established metamorphic rock provinces of the South American Shield — the main deposits of Brazilian multicolour gneisses lie in the states of Espírito Santo and Bahia, where a whole family of related banded stones of movement such as Verde Marina, Verde Pavão, Verde Aurora and Multicolor Brasil is quarried. The strong folded texture was formed by tectonic pressure in the course of crustal formation — old sedimentary and igneous parent rocks were reorganised under high pressure into parallel mineral runs. Mineralogically, green hornblende, dark biotite, white plagioclase and transparent quartz dominate; the rust-brown accents are garnets and secondary iron oxide impregnations. In the stone trade, Verde Tropical is consistently listed as a “granite”, because the material is fabricated and maintained technically like a classic hard rock.
Technically, Verde Tropical shows the typical profile of Brazilian hard rocks: high compressive strength, low water absorption, robust against everyday use, frost-resistant in the Central European climate, acid-resistant within the normal application range. The strong directional banded structure is characteristic of the material and not a quality feature that can be altered by grading — in the orientation of the slabs, deliberate setting along the direction of movement can be used as a design device, much as with the grain of timber. Polished
Polishing is the most classic finish in the hard stone segment — a mirror-smooth, high-gloss surface with the highest possible colour intensity and maximum depth effect in the mineral structure. As an acid-resistant silicate stone, polished granite is easy to care for and the first choice for kitchen worktops, wall claddings and prestigious exposed surfaces.
Honed C120
A matt appearance created by coarse honing with C120 grit — the level surface shows a more restrained colour intensity than polished and can carry visible honing marks. Compared with a polish it is more maintenance-intensive but stylistically calmer; the preferred choice for modern interior architecture with reduced reflection.
Polished, reverse Anticato
A slab usable on both sides: a polished face with the highest possible colour intensity and mirror gloss, and an Eco-Antik reverse (flamed and intensively brushed) with a rustic, lively appearance. It combines maximum elegance with a craftsman-like character — flexible for differently used installation situations.
Flamed + brushed once
The surface is roughened by heat and brushed once to smooth sharp-edged mineral residues and remove loose material. The feel is somewhat gentler than purely flamed, it remains slip-resistant, and the colour is less intense than polished. The standard choice for outdoor areas, terraces and heavily used floor areas.
Care & fabrication
As a Brazilian gneiss of the granite family, Verde Tropical can be maintained over the long term and cleaned without difficulty. For kitchen worktops, exterior paving and heavily frequented floor areas we recommend a silane- or polysiloxane-based impregnation as protection against red wine, coffee, oil and tomato sauce. Ongoing cleaning is done with a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner and a soft microfibre cloth or mop; clear water alone is almost always enough for day-to-day care. You should avoid strongly alkaline deep cleaners, acidic products such as vinegar or lemon cleaners and abrasive scouring pads. Outdoors, Verde Tropical is frost-resistant and tolerant of de-icing salt — de-icing salt residues should be rinsed off with water in spring. We recommend refreshing the impregnation every three to five years depending on exposure, and more frequently on kitchen worktops and exposed exterior surfaces.
