About Nero Vitina
Nero Vitina is one of those black natural stones that work not through strong white veins but through calm and depth. The stone appears deep black to very dark anthracite, with a closed, almost velvety surface that seems markedly more controlled than materials such as Nero Marquina. It is precisely this restraint that makes the stone interesting for modern bathrooms, dark living areas, fireplace claddings, black vanity tops and prestige interiors in which a consistently calm black material image is called for.
Geologically, Nero Vitina is a dense, polishable black limestone from Greek deposits, above all from the area of Vytina in the Peloponnese. Limestones arise from marine carbonate deposits consolidated over millions of years — the fine-grained, closed structure permits a very high-quality polish, which is why the material is listed in many ranges as a “black marble”, although it behaves like a classical polished limestone.
Technically, Nero Vitina lies in the high-quality range of polishable limestones: around 2,717 kg/m³ bulk density, about 0.13 % water absorption, approximately 96 to 97.9 MPa compressive strength and around 14.2 MPa flexural strength. That is amply sufficient for floors, wall claddings, vanity tops and furniture-related applications. Chemically the stone remains acid-sensitive — wine, lemon, vinegar or sanitary cleaners leave etch marks on the material surface.

Compared with Nero Marquina, Nero Vitina appears markedly calmer and more closed — no vein figure, but pure black. Set against black hard rocks such as Toros Siyah, the material remains acid-sensitive, but in return it appears a shade more elegant and deeper in the polish. Anyone looking for maximum acid resistance for a black kitchen worktop is better served by a black granite.

Nero Vitina is an acid-sensitive limestone. Wine, lemon juice, vinegar, cola, sanitary cleaners or descalers leave etch marks on the material surface — visible as matt shadows or a loss of gloss. On the dark, calm surface, changes are visually particularly noticeable, because they are not concealed by a vein figure.
For all applications, a sealing treatment based on silane or polysiloxane is mandatory. It prevents the penetration of water, oil and dyestuffs and reduces the formation of stains — but it does not remove the acid sensitivity. We recommend refreshing the sealing treatment every 1-2 years.
Day-to-day care is carried out with a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner and a soft microfibre cloth. On dark surfaces you should not work too wet and should take off residues cleanly and dry, so that no streaks arise. Avoid acidic cleaners, vinegar, citric acid and limescale removers.
On dark surfaces in particular, water marks, soap residues and limescale should be removed regularly, so that the calm depth effect is preserved.
For permanently weathered external surfaces the material is not suitable. Indoors it is stable over the long term with proper care.
