Padang TG35 Bianco Tarn shows a classic French building granite with a balanced salt-and-pepper look. The groundmass consists predominantly of pale whitish-grey plagioclase and potassium feldspar crystals, in which black biotite mineral dots are distributed with high contrast. The ratio of light to dark is roughly 65–75 % pale groundmass to 25–35 % black mineral dots — which produces an overall pale impression with a clearly legible crystalline structure. Characteristic are the medium-sized, clearly delimited black biotite mineral dots that give the pale groundmass a classic salt-and-pepper character. The mineral structure is isotropic (without direction). On a polished surface the stone develops a classic gloss with a clear legibility of the mineral structure.

An important clarification about the trade designation: despite the name 'Padang', Padang TG35 Bianco Tarn is NOT a Chinese granite (unlike genuine Chinese Padang granite grades such as TG33 Hellgrau = G633). Polished

Polishing is the most classic finish in the hard stone segment — a mirror-smooth, high-gloss surface with the highest possible colour intensity and maximum depth effect in the mineral structure. As an acid-resistant silicate stone, polished granite is easy to care for and the first choice for kitchen worktops, wall claddings and prestigious exposed surfaces.

Care & fabrication

As a French Carboniferous granite, Padang TG35 Bianco Tarn is a robust hard stone with low water absorption (0.34 %), full frost and acid resistance and very good mechanical strength. Wine, lemon juice, vinegar, cola, sanitary cleaners or descalers leave no etch marks as they would on marble or limestone — the stone is considerably easier to look after and ideally suited to intensive everyday use.

For interior applications we recommend a silane- or polysiloxane-based impregnation at first installation. On the pale groundmass, impregnation is worthwhile, because pigments can otherwise settle more visibly. On polished surfaces a refresh every 8–10 years is enough; on heavily used floor areas or in exterior applications, check every 3–5 years.

Day-to-day care is done with a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner and a soft cloth or microfibre mop. Clear warm water is usually enough. Acidic cleaners are in principle unproblematic, but should nevertheless not be used, because they can attack the impregnation. For kitchen worktops Padang TG35 Bianco Tarn is solidly suited: cut- and scratch-resistant (Mohs hardness 6–7), insensitive to heat (hot pots and pans can be set down directly for short periods, but longer heat exposure above 200 °C should still be avoided), acid-resistant and with good stain repellency. The pale salt-and-pepper surface does, however, show sauce, red wine or turmeric stains more strongly than dark granites — with intensive kitchen use you should react promptly.

For exterior applications Padang TG35 Bianco Tarn is particularly well qualified: the DNSA-confirmed durability of the polish outdoors (durable outdoors) and the low water absorption make the stone a first choice for demanding exterior façades with the gloss retained. Polished exterior façades keep their brilliance for years. Its historical track record in German buildings confirms its long-term stability under weathering.

For pool surrounds, outdoor terraces and fountain enclosures, a slip-inhibiting textured finish is mandatory — on polished exterior surfaces there is a high risk of slipping when wet. In areas with frequent salt contact we recommend an additional impregnation refresh every 3 years.
