About Pietra Grigia

Pietra Grigia stands for a dark, calm and thoroughly architectural stone effect. In colour the material moves between dark grey and brown and reads as distinctly more compact and technical than many classically veined stones. That is precisely why it is favoured in contemporary architecture: the stone has presence without being loud. The stone comes from Iran (the Isfahan area) and is also traded internationally as Pietra Grey or Grigio Marquina. Petrographically it is a limestone; because of its dense, readily workable appearance it is frequently assigned to the marble/limestone family in the trade. More important than individual guide values here is the character: a calm, dark grey-brown surface with fine white veins and an even, fine-grained structure that takes a polish and fine finishing well.

Poliert

Politur ist die klassischste Veredelung für Marmor und Kalkstein — eine glänzende Oberfläche mit höchstmöglicher Farbintensität und ausgeprägter Tiefenwirkung der Aderung. Je nach mineralischer Zusammensetzung kann die Wirkung stellenweise mattglänzend sein. Säureempfindlich — Wein, Zitrone und Essig hinterlassen Ätzspuren bei längerer Einwirkung.

Satiniert

Die Oberfläche wird gebürstet — weichere Minerale werden gezielt entfernt, es entsteht eine subtile Tiefe und mattes Erscheinungsbild. Besonders geaderte Kalksteine erhalten so eine charaktervolle Optik und Haptik. Die mattere Veredelung kaschiert kleine Ätzungen besser als poliert und ist alltagstauglicher für stark beanspruchte Innenflächen.

Getrommelt

Durch Reibung mit Gesteinszugaben und Wasser in einer rotierenden Trommel entsteht eine matte Oberfläche mit leicht angebrochenen Kanten und satinähnlicher Haptik. Wirkt natürlich gealtert. Geeignet ausschließlich für Wand- und Bodenfliesen, nicht für Rohplatten — Standardwahl für mediterrane und antikisierte Gestaltungskonzepte.

Care & fabrication

As a limestone, Pietra Grigia is acid-sensitive. Acidic household cleaners, limescale removers and aggressive sanitary chemicals are unsuitable and can dull or etch the surface.

On heavily used surfaces a professional sealer is advisable, because it reduces the ingress of moisture, oils and colouring agents. For cleaning, pH-neutral stone cleaners or water and soft cloths are suitable.

Colouring agents, greases and cosmetics should be removed promptly. Film-forming maintenance coatings and abrasive products are to be avoided on visible surfaces.

For internal walls, floors and stairs the maintenance effort is readily manageable; in kitchens and wet areas the sealer is the decisive protection.
