About Silver River Root

Silver River Root owes its name to its characteristic vein pattern: darker grey and blackish-brown lines run through a silver-grey ground like branching roots or flowing watercourses. The slab pattern is not quiet — it reads almost like a drawing from nature and carries rooms as an architectural motif in its own right. It is precisely this liveliness that makes the stone interesting for bookmatch wall surfaces, reception areas, prestige bathrooms and large-format floors in which the material is meant to act as a carrier of imagery.

Care & fabrication

Silver River Root is an acid-sensitive limestone. Wine, lemon juice, vinegar, cola, bathroom cleaners or descalers leave etch marks on the material surface — visible as dull shadows or loss of gloss. That is part of the material's character, and you have to reckon with it deliberately.

For all applications, a silane- or polysiloxane-based sealer is mandatory. It prevents the penetration of water, oil and dyes and reduces staining — but it does not remove the acid sensitivity. We recommend refreshing the sealer every 1-2 years.

Daily care is carried out with a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner and a soft microfibre cloth. Avoid vinegar-based cleaners, cement haze removers, acidic bathroom cleaners and strongly alkaline products. Wine, coffee, oil, lemon juice or cosmetic products should not be left to act on the material surface for long.

For kitchen worktops, Silver River Root is suitable only with qualifications — acids from everyday cooking can leave a visible patina. Anyone who loves the dramatic material pattern but needs a carefree kitchen should choose a grey quartzite.

For permanently weathered external surfaces the material is not suitable.
