About Star Galaxy

Star Galaxy is one of the best-known black granites in the market, even though the name sounds almost like an understatement. The effect arises from a rich black ground tone in which golden to copper-coloured reflective points appear as if scattered through it. Depending on the incidence of light, the surface looks either restrainedly refined or almost sparkling. It is precisely this combination of black stone and metallic sheen that makes Star Galaxy so popular for kitchens, reception counters, floor areas, stairs and dark accent walls. As a black granite it is frequently sought out because it looks far more decorative than a homogeneous black, yet is technically considerably more hard-wearing than black marble.

Finishes

Star Galaxy is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Polished

Polishing is the most classic finish in the hard stone segment — a mirror-smooth, high-gloss surface with the highest possible colour intensity and maximum depth effect in the mineral structure. As an acid-resistant silicate stone, polished granite is easy to care for and the first choice for kitchen worktops, wall claddings and prestigious exposed surfaces.

Satin-honed

The satin surface is created by brushing, which selectively removes softer minerals and gives the surface a slight depth. A matte appearance with subtle light reflection and a warm feel to the touch. Easy to maintain, insensitive to scratches and suited to everyday use — a popular alternative to a polish in modern kitchens and living spaces.

Wengé wen-pec®

A special finish with the characteristic look of wengé wood — the treatment creates a lengthwise texture with a warm, wood-like feel. A design-led choice for decorative accent surfaces and statement applications; technical details available on direct request.

Care & fabrication

Star Galaxy is comparatively straightforward to look after, but should nevertheless be impregnated after installation. A silane-based impregnation is worthwhile above all on kitchen worktops and areas with pale grouting, so that oil and dyes do not settle unnecessarily.

For cleaning and care, pH-neutral natural stone cleaners, warm water and a clean microfibre cloth are enough. Thanks to the very low water absorption of 0.02–0.06 %, the stone is considerably less sensitive than marble or limestone.

Avoid abrasive pads, aggressive deep cleaners and strongly alkaline or acidic specialist products unless they are expressly approved for natural stone. Coffee, oil, red wine or lemon juice should be removed promptly, but Star Galaxy reacts to them far more calmly than lime-bound stones.

Outdoors, avoid de-icing salt in high dosage in winter and clean mechanically instead. With a gabbro this dense, frost is considerably less critical than standing films of dirt on rough surfaces.

Frequently asked questions

Is Star Galaxy suitable for the kitchen?

Yes, very much so. Star Galaxy brings a high bulk density of 2,960–3,010 kg/m³, a very strong compressive strength of 225–250 MPa and an extremely low water absorption of 0.02–0.06 %. That makes it one of the more hard-wearing black natural stones for kitchen worktops.

Star Galaxy: polished or satin-honed?

Polished is the classic choice, because the golden inclusions then sparkle to the maximum. Satin-honed looks calmer, more modern and is a little easier to look after. For prestige black granite kitchens, polished is strong; for understated schemes, the satin-honed version.

Where does Star Galaxy come from?

Star Galaxy comes from India. The sources list it geologically as a gabbro, but in the trade it is almost always offered as a black granite.

How do I clean Star Galaxy?

A pH-neutral natural stone cleaner with a soft cloth or microfibre cloth is enough for cleaning and care. Thanks to the very low water absorption of 0.02–0.06 %, Star Galaxy is uncomplicated; even so, oily or strongly colouring substances should not stand on the surface for longer than necessary.

Is Star Galaxy frost-resistant?

The sources describe Star Galaxy as suitable for interior and exterior applications. The very low water absorption of 0.02–0.06 % speaks clearly for robust behaviour outdoors, provided the construction, drainage and choice of finish are right.

Is Star Galaxy really a granite?

In the trade yes, petrographically no. Star Galaxy is a gabbro. For use that is no disadvantage – on the contrary: the dark mineralogy contributes substantially to the material's density, stability and chemical robustness.

What does Star Galaxy cost?

The price depends on the batch, thickness, surface finish and fabrication — with natural stone there is no serious flat rate per square metre. Business customers see prices once their B2B account is activated; private customers receive a complete quote through a fabricator near them.
